why do asians like school so much? in the city where im from asians are a minority. but at my university, the majority of the population are asians...

so why do asians like school so much?

so why do asians like school so much?

CUZ THEY BREED THEM TO UBERPWN AT MATH AND OTHER SCHOOL SO THAT THEY CAN TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!11!

Oh, you were being serious?

Familial pressure I'd imagine.

This question is on par with asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop.

^ there is some validity to this thread. asians are a minority but they dominate academically throughout the u.s.

I wouldn't say they 'like' school, but a lot of international parents (not just Asians) put more pressure on their children to go to good schools and to get high paying jobs. It happens across all races- I wouldn't say the local pressured-by-parents white kid 'loves' school either...

And if they aren't pressured by parents and just love to learn, then there's no secret... I'm not sure if it's something we're born with or not.

Some racial/ethnic groups tend to emphasize school more than others. It's no innate love for school or anything, it's just how they were raised (as a Jew I can attest to a similar familial upbringing =P).

And most Asians I know actually hate school. I would too if my parents were on my case every time I got a bad grade, j/k j/k.

Why do whites, blacks and hispanics dislike school so much?

Your logic fails me. How does a proportionately higher amount of Asians at your school relative to the province = Asians like school ?

Second of all, in the US it may seem that the current younger generation of Asians are on average fairly academically strong, because, as others have stated, many of these childrens' parents came from an underdeveloped country and went through ****, so with that experience behind them they try hard to raise their children so they can have a much better lives ahead of them relative to their parents'.

Third of all, this is not only true of Asians, but of any non-US nationality.

Many of the parents of Asian kids I know lived fairly well off in their native countries. They were wealthy enough to immigrate here and pay for an education. Some of them even own property in their country of origin.

When it all comes down to it, their drive stems from the honor system.

I'm Asian and I hate school, yet I have to do my best to please my parents.

There's nothing really out there for underachieving asians. I've never seen an asian working in a warehouse or a restaurant or a foot locker or anything like that. They can't really get by on their looks or personality. On the other hand, they have superior morality and are readily able to accept suffering as a part of life, so they're usually harder workers. Don't ban me.

Welcome to the hall of stereotypes...

Not all black people love watermelon and shoot guns like this one.

And not all Asian people are really good at math like this one here.

Oh! Oh. Look! The covetous Jew!

And here's the sleepy Mexican Worker!

Eh? What, oh, I'm not a display man, I'm the janitor. Man... I'm so sleepy

Racist.

I don't think the PC police need to come out everytime people discuss GENERAL trends that are evident in subcultures. Yes, there is an extraordinary value placed on education in many Asian cultures. Yes, many African-Americans are burdened by a perception that if one succeeds academically, they are selling out the culture.

I think the image that immigrants all came from **** lives in other countries is quite a fallacy. I went to high school near Detroit with an extraordinary number of 1st generation Asian and Indian youth. Their parents were extremely well educated, wealthy, and motivated to leave their homeland to maximize their fiscal opportunities in the U.S.

I suffered a great deal academically because Indian and Asian students were conditioned from very young to easily memorize and regurgitate answers, which turned into high grades. I worry that our educational system that rewards this behavior is not fostering the independent thought necessary to maintain the US as a mecca of innovation. This dynamic, however, serves well the wealthy of the Asian culture, so perhaps that is why so many come here for their education.

Stupidest thread...EVER!

because it's a tradition in china to do well in school. like in ancient times to get a government job you needed to study and test.

lmaoo...are u talking about famous ppl? not many people get by on their looks. there aren't many famous asian people because there aren't many asian ppl here to begin with. The reason why we have so many WHITE CELEBRITIES is because 90% of the country is white!! if you go to china do u find white celebrities? no. is that cuz the white people in china are ugly?

i wonder if i'm falling into the regurgitating-answers trend.

Narcissa....when I say getting by, I don't mean doing well....I mean just getting by. If you're an underachiever/poor, you need to impress the ladies with your sexiness or your cool personality. Otherwise it's basically a fluke if you can get a girlfriend.

Asians do well in school because we're just smarter than everyone else... there are several statistical significant studies proving this.

"There are also group differences in intelligence parallel to those in educational achievement, suggesting both intelligence and motivation are involved in racial and ethnic differences in educational achievement."

The same reason why Blacks tend to be more athletic and stronger, Asians are more intelligent.

b/c we're good at it! HA! (sarcasm much intended)
