why do hipsters get so much flack?

They get so much flack because they think they’re better than everyone, not so much academically or socially or physically, but culturally I guess. They think that just because they aren’t conforming that they are better than the rest of us. They have that sort of haughty and cocky demeanor, almost false pride in their rebellion to “society”.

I think it’s really obnoxious to be honest. I can’t tell you why I hate them in words because I can’t find those words anywhere in my head. They just rub off the wrong vibe in my opinion. They get under my skin for some weird reason.

It’s like they’re trying to prove something to society. What are you trying to prove?

Pretty much everything has been covered…

Attention seeking…
Being different for the sake of being different…
Immature (if you ask me)…
Radicalism (anti-law, very liberal, counter-culture)…
Wannabe revolutionaries…

It’s so stupid. I cannot even fathom how so many people live this life style.

I would eat hipsters for breakfast, but they are all bone and gristle. I feed them to the neighbour’s German Shepard instead :D

at OP: one of the reason why you got so much **** when you were went hipster for a day is because you didn’t pull it off well. It was obviously your first time as a “hipster” and you didn’t walk around with confidence - as you said. You stared at the ground and were just uncomfortable.

But yeah… I agree with everyone else, hipsters get flack because they think they’re next level with film photog/attire and lifestyle in general.

all these misspellings of “flak” is giving me heartburn :(

many people dislike hipsters because many people dislike anything that strays from the norm
a lot of people hate hipsters because they’re just the next group of bandwagonners, the next fresh idea that succumbs, like fruit, to becoming rotten over time as more people get bored of their own obscurity and begin to copycat, corrupting the whole idea, and making the subculture look like one of hypocrisy
https://www.adbusters.org/magazine/79/hipster.html</a> explains it best :O

Hipsters are just this generation’s hippies
they’re the one most fun group to laugh at because of their ridiculous mindset
I think there are true “hipsters” out there but like any good idea, they’re in small numbers and they’ve been overshadowed by all the annoying people defined as hipsters
just wait a while… just like hippies and beatniks of the past, the fad will disappear and they’ll grow out of it

I don’t know about the jeans, but keep wearing the thundercats shirt. Everyone at the college age has watched thundercats and were probably even a fan of the show when they were younger. I don’t understand why that would get you labelled a hipster. Thundercats is just another one of those shows that 80s/90s kids nostalgiagasm about reguarly

At least the hippies supposedly stood for something. The hipsters only stand for a fa

^ $20 says that conservatives in the 1960s felt the same way about hippies. They’re just angry kids who pretend to stand for things that they don’t know anything about.

I’m not equating the two, I just think that the whole “hippy” movement is a bit romanticized at this point.

I love the irony when they try to insult other sub cultures, especially “preps”, for being conformists

Sure there are super preppy clothes that no man should wear, but polos, button down shirts, khaki shorts, topsiders, etc. isnt preppy its adult.

20 and 30 years from now I wont look back at my college wardrobe shaking my head in regret (like I do with my high school and middle school clothes). I doubt most hipsters will be able to say the same thing

In saying this I am fine with whatever people want to wear. It is their choice in how they present themselves and I will try my best in not judging a book by its cover. Just dont call me a sell out for dressing presentable while you are just riding on another trend

They just look dirty…

Hipsters need to stop hating on other people.
Other people need to stop hating on hipsters.

End of discussion.

I will hate whom I please, thank you.

happycowlover -
haha ever heard of hipster runoff?

^Nope. What’s that?

I googled it; looks like dreck.
