What is it about hipsters that makes me so annoyed?

I'm not annoyed by any other subculture. Why hipsters? Why do they annoy me so?

because you want to be one

this is why everyone hates hipsters, i’m sure of it

haha I completely agree.

probably because most hipsters are *******s

It’s the same with me. My boyfriend has a few hipster friends that just make me so upset. Most of them are extremely condescending with no basis to back up their superiority. Plus they always get on me about recycling, owning a car, and wearing new clothing.

it sounds like they make you upset because they are dbags, not because they are hipsters.

and you really should recycle.

why are there so many threads about hipsters lately

I think it’s the sense of unearned smugness.

Who doesn’t hate hipsters?

10 char

who knows

even hipsters hate hipsters

lol
10char

what bothers you in others is a good indicator of what you dislike about yourself, so maybe you’re insecure and you are bothered by viewing the posturing behavior of other equally-insecure people

don’t get mad that people think hipsters are aholes

and let’s put this logic to use

“man i hate hitler a lot”

“well dude, maybe you should deal with the problem that you dislike that you kill jews so that means you dislike that in hitler”

“wow, i never thought about that, thanks”

this just in: hipsters are nazis

I would like a pictorial example of what exactly a hipster is.

[Hipster - Encyclopedia Dramatica](http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Hipster)

the photos there are quite accurate

Thanks for the link!

Oh no, i think my cousin is somewhat hipster!

I was wondering what was up with my cousin.

Well I can’t say i’ve even really noticed hipsters, except for maybe the style of hair and some of the clothing.

Glad I’m not one though.

they think they’re too kewl for skewl, dudeee.

plus they behave as if they’re being totally originally, not even realizing that there are thousands of other teens/twenty somethings acting and dressing the same way.

I think I found an explanation for why I do not like hipsters. The person who said it’s because of my own insecurities was partially right.

Hipsters have no soul. All they do is collect pieces of fashion from other counterculture movements and compile them together. They have no purpose, and they are making nothing new. They have two very unproductive and very contradicting goals: 1) to seem authentically and apathetically cool, and 2) to be the most current and on the scene.

Hipsterism is almost flimsy when contrasted against the movements of the American countercultural past, eg the hippies – though you may disagree with them, you have to agree that they had purpose. Hipsters are like shriveled up little balloons when they’re standing in line behind the grandioseness of the beats, the hippies, and the punks.

And despite this lack of purpose, no, BECAUSE of it, they think they can pull off this superior attitude – they think their apathy makes them really really understatedly cool.

So the reason I probably dislike them so much is because I myself am insecure. The hipster movement is one of insecurity. They don’t stand up for any one thing strongly, but they kind of make sluggish attempts at standing up for a lot of little things. They can’t settle on one type of music or art or exotic food type or drug. They’re not united.

Maybe it isn’t their fault. Maybe it’s just too hard to be young and fashionable while standing up for only one cause in a world where there is so much going wrong. It’s possible that the complicatedness of modern society has driven counterculture to this end, this point of no return. Counterculture used to be about changing things. Now it’s just a conglomeration of the past. It’s like people have given up on changing things… there’s just too much to change. And hipsters represent that. Especially in places like Brooklyn, NY, where hipsters are literally killing the culture.

Well… i donno. what do you think?
