What kind of place is it?

I lived there my first year (Courtside) and I absolutely loved it. Search around for old threads about Courtside/SV and you’ll see some of my reviews.

its pretty antisocial in general …i think ppl dont mind it, unless u happen to live in superantisocial canyon point or delta terrace

Somehow people think you can only socialize with the people you live around. I’m living in Courtside right now and my roommate goes up to other res halls to socialize.

Sunset village = awesome unless you crave socializing every waking moment. When it comes to socializing in the dorms, your mileage can vary. There TENDS to be more socializing in the res halls than in the plazas, but it’s not guaranteed either way.

My daughter (currently a sophomore) lived in Sunset Village her freshman year. She was in the Canyon Point bldg. She really enjoyed and I don’t think she would have wanted to live anywhere else. She was in a triple that shared big bathroom with one other room (another triple). So that in itself is pretty social. Yes, the plazas, and Sunset Village are more quiet than a res hall as you don’t have 20 rooms on one floor with people walking by your room every second on their way to the bathroom. But my daughters house (they called each separate bldg a house) had lots of social get togethers and themed events. She became very close to her roommate and they now share an apt off campus.

The location is great as you are near everything on the hill (residential area). There is a social life but just a bit less than a res hall. My daughter loved that she could go out and be social, meet friends, get together to study and go out but that she had a relatively quiet place to go home to. She could actually study in her room which is harder to do in a res hall. I am pretty sure she would say that if she could recommend a dorm she would say a plaza, and Sunset Village, over the res halls.

rieber terrace is the bombbb.

sunset village sucks, dont even try to make it sound good

Another reason people don’t like Sunset is because the buildings are very old. (One of them is the oldest in all of housing.)

Also, many of the rooms there are suites (?) and quite expensive.

Almost all UCLA dorms have some kind of stinky smell in the hallways. I don’t know why.

I’ve been in many UCLA dorms, and almost all of them have weird stinky smell in the hallways (and even in the rooms). I lived in Courtside in freshman year, and the stinky hallway smell is annoying.
