Why do so many students start having sex once they enter college?

I would just like to note that a number of the reasons to have sex before marriage given here are time-honored arguments given by men to get their girlfriends to have sex. They are also complete baloney. These include “how will we know we’re sexually compatible?” and “Most guys can’t feel close to a woman until they have had sex.” There may be reasons to have sex in college, but these are not real reasons. They are strategies.

I wonder how often kids underestimate how much they’re going to miss that ‘touch’ factor. So I have to wonder how much sex in college is the result of simply craving ‘touch’ but not really understanding that it’s just simply TOUCH they are craving

Well, I hate being touched – even hugging my parents is a chore. So, I guess this rule wouldn’t apply to me.

Speaking of, I hate being on a crowded subway and some person keeps (accidentally) touching me or leaning on me; I’m usually mentally cursing the person out. I hate being touched. Don’t touch me.

And then you have those people who always want a hug when they see you, or a kiss “Hello.” Ugh.

Ummm… is this a serious question?

The probability of having experienced anything; sex, death, a broken bone, winning the lottery, finding your soul mate, seeing a crappy movie, acting in a movie, etc., increases with age.

Yes, but that’s a stock function, not a flow function.

For me, because sex is fun and intimate. And you can argue all the reasons why college students have sex until condoms start decomposing, but I don’t understand the sense of a comment like: Waiting is better/worse. Compared to what, exactly? Some parallel universe only you are privy to?

To Hunt:
The examples you gave are certainly “baloney”, but I don’t think most sensible guys would ever use them. The cynical tone you use when you call these arguments “strategies” seems like the very reason why there is a double standard for promiscuous men vs. promiscuous women. The vast majority of the time, girls aren’t being duped into having sex. The vast majority of the time, there are no arguments. I think consensual premarital sex is far more common than you think.
