Why do YOU want to go to YALE?

My D just finished her second year at Yale. It’s an extraordinary university. A sense of community exists everywhere. Yale has an amazingly rich extra-curricular community. My D probably overdid her EC’s this last semester spending over 25 hrs. a week on dance and fine arts activities. But she loved every minute and still managed to excel in her five classes. The residential colleges are wonderful. They offer Yale freshman an instant and, from what I understand, life-long community of friends. To say the arts are vibrant and alive at Yale is an understatement. In fact, my D was also admitted to Harvard and when she stayed there last fall for the annual football rival game Harvard’s atmosphere, lacking in the arts and in its sense of community, only confirmed that she had made the right decision (one of her best friends who was in the same position and now attends Yale felt exactly the same). What my daughter and I both observed while she was making her final decision between Y and H 2+ years ago, was that kids who attended Harvard talked endlessly about what an “amazing place Harvard is.” The kids at Yale (and now my daughter is one of these) LOVE Yale. The students are amazingly accomplished and the brightest in the country (Yale still reigns as the most selective). Most importantly, they’re great people. Despite all the achievements and excellence, somehow Yale manages to put together a group of undergrads who love life and are fun, happy people. Also, the contact with professors and the class sizes are remarkable. This only leads to increased opportunities. And the campus, with its extraordinary Gothic architecture, it’s breath-taking. I just spent 2-1/2 weeks there and each time I walked across campus I was blown away by its beauty and artistry. I could go on and on. If you’re fortunate enough to be admitted to Yale, by all means, GO!

Simply put, it would allow me to further both my interests in biological science and theatre.
