I got the viewbook today in the mail and saw that the average SAT score for Wellesley was 2082. I know, its the average, not the median but still, i think its too low for wellesley. people on CC who got in seemed to have 2200+. My brother says there might be a small group who had pretty low scores who messed up the average. I don't know if its true but my score is around the average. I'm wondering if i have a chance at wellesley...

Huh--I actually don't know O_o. I would think that looking at the averages section per section would tell you much more about how good your chances are; I myself had very imbalanced scores, and my combined average wasn't very indicative of my talents or weaknesses.

While what your brother says makes a lot of sense, I also know that sometimes the highest and lowest scores are cut out of average calculations to correct for this sort of misrepresentation. The other thing you may have to contend with is the misrepresentation of collegeboard.com itself--on this particular website you're getting information from only a very small (and very specific) group of Wellesley students. In short, the argument goes both ways, and in the end I don't know the answer; I'll be just as interested to know what people say as you.

Well, I got the information from Wellesley viewbook, not the Collegeboard.com.
Did you mean that Wellesley College got their info from Collegeboard?

no--I meant that your whole dilemma is based on two conflicting pieces of information, one from the Wellesley College Viewbook and one from Collegeboard. What I'm saying is that the information from Collegeboard is representative of a pretty small group of people, while the viewbook accounts for a much larger group.

Nobody here really cares about SAT scores. I've never been asked about mine nor do I know how any of my friends did. I feel like in highschool, we were told that the SATs were very very important to the application process. In reality, they can certainly hurt you, but they aren't going to help you that much. If you're in the range the viewbook gives, you should be fine in that aspect. Wellesley, and most small liberal arts colleges, tends to see test scores as an indication of how well you can concentrate at 8:00 AM on a Saturday morning, not an indication of intelligence. There are so many other things which are waaayyy more important.
Good luck with your application!
