Hi, I'm a senior in High School. And I'm starting my Emory essay for Early Admission. I have two questions 1. I heard the "Why Emory" essay can only be 250 words, but if it's over that, will they care? and 2. What all should I include in the essay? Emory has been my dream school, because it has such a good pre-med program and it's close to home, but I don't know what else to say. If someone could guide me, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

If they say 250 words, keep it under 250 words.

When I went to college, I had some assignment where I was told to write a paper on a particular subject, but not to write more than 3 pages, and I wrote 3 1/4 pages, and the professor made me pay the price for ignoring his clear instruction.

Several admission counselors I have talked to have said they really don’t mind it being over the word a little bit.Its better to write an amazing slightly longer essay then a decent shorter one. Its not like they are going to actually count the words. But if you do go over I would be sure to make sure its only a little bit and because you HAVE to go over in order to say everything you need.

My S1 had a wonderful four years at Emory! Really try to keep it close to their limit…make sure you demonstrate what you will bring to the Emory campus…they already know how wonderful they are, how will you uniquely use their wonderfulness to their benefit? My son wrote about a conversation he had with his pair of Emory tour guides (mentioning them by name) and how it fit into his vision of his future self.
