What are some things that FSU has to offer over UF?

I want to know why I should attend FSU rather than UF. Tell me what sets apart FSU. I really cannot decide at this point whether I would rather go to FSU or UF. UF's campus did not really "wow" me when I went there over the summer. And Gainesville just seems like a very dull city. I don't know if Tallahassee is any better. I have not visited FSU yet. I plan to do so very soon though.

I am going to major in psychology.

I will qualify for the honors program at FSU (32 ACT, 33 superscored) but not at UF. I am wondering if I could qualify for more scholarships at FSU.

You MUST try to visit during preview. There will be 3-4 days, usually Fridays, in the spring that are accepted student preview days. Consider going, getting to know the campus. Dorms are open for tours. You can sit in sessions with dept rep's for Psych, and go to the honors session as well. Also, there ARE scholarships at FSU based on grades and scores that are generous and in addition to Bright Futures. And once Bright Futures pays and scholarships are distributed, you get the remaining balance to go towards room or board or books etc.

Make a visit before you decide. But consider giving the dorm deposit which is refundable all but $25 so you can secure a decent number to get into the honors dorm. It is in a great location centrally on campus and on Landis Green.

I recommend you choose after you visit FSU first. And on a Friday, there is alot going on around campus if you can meet up with someone you know is attending. You can get an idea of the night life on a Fri night in Tally.

I've visited both campuses. FSU is altogether within one big circle. UF dorms, classroom halls, student activities places are all dispersed among a very large land area.

FSU is artsier. The people who go to UF tend to be more businessy and such. FSU students are liberal arts or physical sciences.

UF kids think they're better than FSU kids. UF is also the number 1 party school in the nation.

I'm a psych major at FSU and the (brand new) psychology building is SOOOOOOO nice. But as sunnyflorida stated, you'd have to see the campus. I went to UF first to visit and like you, I really wasn't impressed, especially with all the hype. But with FSU, it was so nice with all the brick and the closeness of it all.

You may qualify for the University Scholarship at FSU: [Scholarships[/url] There's no guarantee you'd qualify for Honors...that is a year-to-year decision based on the academic credentials of the incoming freshmen.

Oh woops, I guess I am getting ahead of myself. I meet the requisites for honors, but you're right, there's no guarantee I'd get accepted for it.

Thanks for the links parent2noles. =]

Okay, so preview days are the best then?

I might visit this month anyway just to get to know the campus.

I already paid the deposit for a dorm. I got a priority number of 52. I put Landis as my first choice.

I strongly suggest you visit during Preview and consider making an appointment with an admissions officer (with your credentials in hand) during your visit.

D1 attended Preview, even though we were doubtful it'd be worth the expense (both Mrs p2n and I are FSU grads and we know the campus well), and she decided during that time that FSU and biochemistry were for her. She connected with a faculty member she spoke with and was able to do individual research with her later. It was a wonderful experience for our older daughter, who is now awaiting the start of med school at FSU next May. D2 went with us and refused to apply anywhere else...though we suggested (and even pushed a bit) she at least visit UF.

Landis is a great location, but don't overlook other dorms that may be very social.

If you cannot make PREVIEW, go for a campus tour as soon as possible anyway.
Try to go when classes are in session so you can really get a feel for what it would be like to be an undergraduate student at this university.
Once you visit in person you will know if Florida State is the right place for you to attend.
