Hi, I have an interview this Friday, and the only question that I can't answer is "why Georgetown?" I'm pretty sure he'll ask me this, but to be honest Georgetown is just one of the 14 schools I applied to based on its proximity and rankings. How did you reply to this question?

well of course i mentioned rankings, & location, but i actually said the hook for me was this one picture I found where it looked EXACTLY like hogwarts and i thought it was the most beautiful place ever and I know I'd love to spend 4 years there, and i think my interviewer loved it haha; just be totally honest!

First, I would make sure Georgetown is a good fit for you (i.e. look into the programs you want, certain aspects of the university that fit your personality and what you want in a college), rather than apply just because it is prestigious and in a good location. But, that is just my two cents.

14 schools! is that normal! I'm applying to 8

If you're applying just out of "proximity and rankings", then I would first suggest you do some serious research into Georgetown. Most interviewers would not like the "well it's just so highly regarded!" response very much, it screams prestige-whore. I'd find a few little facts or bits of information that correspond to your major interest, things like specific classes or events or clubs and cite those as some examples of why Georgetown is a good fit for you.

haha I'm only applying to three schools, georgetown being one of them. I can't imagine handling 14 applications... three was hard enough. If it's just another school on your list, I would recommend doing some research on programs and what characteristics about Georgetown you find enticing. Be specific if the interviewer asks you that question, but my interviewer never did specifically ask me that.

it's not that hard

I've basically done about 4 essays and those 4 (slightly altered depending on school) have covered 14 applications

^^ That's true, I probably would have ended up recycling my essays a lot if I had applied to more schools. I guess I just didn't have any other schools that I wanted to apply to; I had already narrowed down my choice to my top three by the beginning of the year. We'll see if it was a good strategy or not haha

I doing 9 applications (8 are done already), and I think that I probably wrote 5 or so essays. I anticipated the applications being horribly tedious and time-consuming, but they're really not terribly bad. I will probably be done by Monday or so; I just have one essay left to write. However, 14 applications definitely garners a tip of the hat!

uh - i hate applications.

14 applications should not sound too surprising. I'd like to bet that students this year apply to way more schools than students last year, mainly because of the implementation of the Commonapp. 12 of my 14 applications are commonapp, so I only had to write one main essay for them. It's ironic that colleges implemented the commonapp to save time for students, since students just apply to more colleges to counter that saved time...
