Why haven't I gotten a response?

I submitted my application on July 29th and I still haven’t gotten a reply back. They received my test scores and transcript before August began. It’s been over two weeks with no answer. Should I be worried? Does it usually take this long? I thought it would be quick since my stats are pretty good and it’s still summer so lots of people haven’t applied yet.

Two weeks is absolutely nothing-- even during the school year. Figure you’ll be waiting another 2 months or so for a response. And summer is when people tend to take vacations.

Also, you’ve got to figure that they may be waiting for the packet from your school to arrive… and your high school is also on a summer schedule.

I know you’re dying for an answer. But it simply doesn’t work the way you want it to.

@bjkmom WHAT?! Two months that’s crazy!! What packet are they waiting for from my school? My school has sent everything they need and USF received everything needed. I’m not DYING from lack of an answer but it’d be nice to have and nice reassurance

I’m sure it would be nice. But the reality is that, in my opinion, it’s unlikely to happen anytime in the immediate future.

Keep in mind: I’m a stranger. I have no idea whether anyone in your school has been there all summer, just waiting for kids who want their stuff submitted right away.

I am telling you that in my school, the Guidance people are going back to work today. So any stuff that is on a desk is probably in the middle of a pretty big pile of other people’s stuff.

@bjkmom Hm ok. The guidance counselors at my school went back to school 3 weeks before school starts and I’ve been in contact with them. Anyways I’ll just have to wait it out

Did you apply for Fall 2019?

I am wondering the same thing as @RealAcadAdvisor. If you applied for Fall 2019, then the admissions staff might be busy with last minute questions and changes for students who will be starting in September 2018 (ie, in just over two weeks). Right now they are going to need to prioritize questions from students who will be showing up in two weeks.

I would not be concerned at all about not hearing anything for a month or so after you apply.

@RealAcadAdvisor @DadTwoGirls Yes I did.

Can you see that they received your application? Do they have a portal you can check? Assuming you can see they got it, you just have to wait.

The answer is on the school website. That is always the first place you should be checking. https://www.usf.edu/admissions/freshmen/admission-information/requirements-deadlines.aspx
Apply early! Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis BEGINNING IN OCTOBER as applications are completed and all supporting documents are received. You may APPLY AS EARLY AS AUGUST OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR.

AS AN ASIDE – BE SURE YOUR APPLICATION FILED IN JULY IS VALID (I would contact admissions directly) – IT MAY HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TOO SOON.

Happy1 that was awesome. Can you now get my son to put his dishes in the dishwasher and wet towels in the hamper? Well done!!

PhilM1, rolling admissions doesn’t mean they drop everything and just work on your application. Maybe 5k florida kids applied on July 29th if that was the first day applications opened.

Most schools, even with rolling admissions, review applications in groups. It appears USF will release the first batch of acceptances/rejections in October.

Decisions for Fall 2019 will begin on October 1st, 2018.

When we applied to USF for Fall 2018, the first day to submit an application was August 1st and we found out in October. I agree that you might want to check with them to see if your July admission was too early.

@USFMom2022 My July application is valid. We’ll just have to wait another week!

October 5th is when we found out last year. The first notification comes to your email with a follow up package in the mail.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you ?

@USFMom2022 Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to keep you updated! :smiley:

Have you heard back?

@amkerr Yup! Accepted!

@PhilM1 by when do you actually have to accept. It is still May 1st right? How early do we apply for housing? If it just says Admitted in portal, how do we know the major accepted?
