I'm stoked to be attending Cornell, but the biggest putoff I can think of now is that the big sport on campus is, of all things...ice hockey. Is that even a sport?...jk...sorta. I'm a huge sports fan, but around here it's football, basketball...dropoff...baseball...huge dropoff... poker? and then hockey. I can tell you everything there is to know about my home pro-basketball and pro-football teams, but can't tell you if the hockey team has a winning or losing record. The only reason I know one exists is because they use the same stadium as the Wiz (basketball team).

So basically, is there any love for football and bball up there, and are there a good amount of people that don't like hockey? Don't try telling me that i'll grow to like hockey because it's blasphemy and...it just ain't happin'n.

The Caps have the one of the best hockey players in Alexander Ovechkin. Go to a Caps game (they are really cheap) and fall in love with hockey. Might as well try before getting to campus.

i felt the same way before i went to high school....even during for a while

then i went to a few games...and everyone went CRAZY and it made me go crazy...its the best. a good hockey team, dedicated fans....its the most fun you can have even if you dont like the sport. half thetime i go to the games to be with friends because we have school spirit and just want our school to do well.

get excited it will be amazing. and congrats!

I agree...I'm originally from a very warm place, but when I started at my school in New England, I really started liking hockey, since its the biggest sport at my school, even though I had not paid any attention to it before. In early November, I got to go to a Cornell-Yale hockey game at Yale, and I'll tell you, those Cornell fans are amazing...you'll find it very hard not going to the hockey games I believe unless you really hate the sport... give it a chance

why are you so concerned about what sports are big up there. people are going to be the most interested in the sport their school is best at, and for cornell that means hockey. also, you're in new york, the further north you get the bigger hockey is, in general. so if you just go with friends, i'm sure the fact that you're watching hockey won't ruin your good time. congrats on getting in though

Uh...because that's what I do for fun. It's gonna be tough for me being so far away from an nfl or nba stadium. And im prolly not gonna have time/access to watch them on tv too right?

Are the football and bball games at Cornell really so bad/unentertaining that I can't have a good time there?

Is there at least a decent intermural football program, that someone who's not too athletic can enjoy? (Actually playing the sport has to be the next best thing to watching it right?

The intramurals for soccer and basketball are pretty large. You will have plenty of time to watch games, especially the NFL and a lot of people watch monday night football. You can definitely have a good time at the football games, they're pretty fun, and we do win sometimes, although it is frsutrating to watch them play.

i Love Volleyball and Basketball a lot and i watch NBA all the times........
i also want to try to play football tooo....can girls join????????
i Love Sports..!!!!!
