I'm having trouble with the "why is this college/university good for you?" essay. I'd like to cite the great academics and variety of clubs, but, truthfully, I'm still unsure about what I want to do (major) and what type of community I'd fit into. Any suggestions about how to approach this kind of question? How specific do I need to be?
Personal Note: I'm specifically anxious about the Stanford supplement version of this question.

What is it that you’ve heard about Stanford that makes you want to spend four years of your life there?

Be honest. If you had a specific experience that prompted you to look into the school more seriously, mention it. If you visited it and the class you sat in on was awesome and you really loved the library, mention it. Admissions officers are used to reading “Well I like the location and the prestige and it’s good in my intended major.” Make it more personal and preferably anecdotal.

A Stanford alumni once told me Stanford is a great place to go if you’re not sure what you want to study in and Berkeley is great if you already know. I guess you could use that some how?
