**** why is everyone on CC so smart???

ThEGuRlNeXt_DoOr I understand where your coming from. But you have to understand that people on CC are mostly overly motivated people, so of the bat there greater then others. Then you always have the kids on here that lie but the kids that aren't lieing usually spend most of their time studying. Im not trying to be harsh or anything but come on I'm sure many CC's on here that are crazy smart can say that they dont have a life.

actually... being smart and not having a life should barely even be correlated. The two have nothing to do with each other.
Smart kids can be the ones winning all the levels on PS2, or the ones playing poker with their buddies on a Friday night. Smart does not necessarily mean they work hard, or even dedicate their time to studying.
On the other hand, those who are highly motivated, hard-working (but perhaps not as intelligent), and really care about school are the ones who might spend their friday nights doing school work, getting ahead, etc.

Well I consider myself smart, and most people in my school know me as the smart kid too(I go to a poor, urban, diverse school, so it's very underserved), but when I come on here, my grades are like..nothing. I know it doesn't have only to do with intelligence. Because i've seen some people on here who claim they have these excellent test scores and then they have horrible grammar(hey, maybe they just can't type :P). It's just..i've never been THAT focused on high school. 80's and 90's are great with me. My average is an 85 and i'm okay with that, I never even wanted to go to an Ivy League school, but with all these people aiming for that you can start feeling like crap.

I'm here to learn about the college experience. It's not so much admissions as actual college life. I'm trying to get my friends, and my family, and myself all to get familiar with this because most of them have not gone to college or will not.

As for fake stats, I don't know why someone would do that. It just seems so pointless. We don't even know you :P

Sorry for the rant..I just feel a little long-winded today.

honestly...no, not everyone is.

As mentioned, many post fake stats. Or, they are over-acheivers. Some are over achievers who pretend they have a life.

I, on the other hand, am an exception to the CC rule - I have a gasp 3.2 cumulative GPA. Eh, some people are interesting and it's fun to chat with everyone at times, hence why I'm always here. I just stay away from chances threads and ivy league school boards. :)

high fives oneiros

I have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, but it's a 3.2 right now. We B students need to stick together ;)

^^ ola, compadre! :D

3 members. haha...

Yup and you have to remember that this is a very small, high-end sample of the applicant pool...all of the stats posted here are well overshot of the median test scores and GPAs that all the Ivies & top tiers report.

[Thank goodness...]

I have a 3.8 UW.

not everyone lies about stats - i know i dont.

you're right lollipop, a lot of people DON'T lie,
I don't even know where people are getting the notion that people post fake stats. That's just pathetic and defeats the whole purpose of being on this site.
And no, a lot of people also DON'T pretend to have lives. I know because I'm actually FRIENDS with the people I mentioned earlier and know they have lives and still superior stats.

Please don't judge your impression of CC from the ivy league boards. A lot of people there are ruthless carnivores who will put you down just so they feel better about their own worthless chances. Confidence is important, and those forums bring it down for you, stay away from them.

the "chances" board is the worst. you get all of these stats that range from mediocre to incredible. i think the people on CC are more type-A personalities because, after all, it's a college admissions-based discussion board (and that is not meant to be a bad thing). i mean, people come here looking for the best ways to get into their top schools. think about it: in the "high school life" forum, you get 8th graders like me who are worried about getting into "elite" private schools! that's just the type of people CC attracts. however, the board certainly does not represent the average middle/high school student.

everyoen here is not smart...half the ppl who come here don't know shee-it about anything...and some ppl research crap to say..there are SOME smart ppl here bu all of them are not smart and just liek lablondie said, ppl lie about their stats...if they had all of those stats and stuff, why would they be here and not filling out scholarships and crap.. isee the same ppl posting stuff every single day on this... idont see where they r geting the time

Wait a second.... are we just defining "SMART" by SAT, GPA, and ECS??? Come on! That's nonsense....

... I've NEVER met a stupid person my entire life

Einstein failed math.

I have.....

Yes, Einstein failed math, and also has a low IQ meaning he was legally retarded....I learned that in AP psych just recently

"idont see where they r geting the time"

They work hard, they work smart, and when they really need to get the job done, they don't come on CC.

And many of them just are more intelligent as well than some of us.

How do we get the time to come on here if we have so much other stuff going on??

Time - management.

I was atounded when I first read College Confidential posts. Finally for a long time, I can interact with smart people online. From the way they post, you can see how good they are at academics. I doubt they lie about their stats, maybe with a little bit of exaggeration.

I do regret terribly that I wasted one whole last year on online games rather than prepare for college. From now on, I shall spend time on this forum. There is still a dim hope that I can get into the college I really want.

As for the time management, that's a new term in my dictionary. I am a last minute guy. I would always procrastinate to the very last minute to get my work done. That's why I didn't get exceptional grade on most of them.

Edit: I know a smart guy in my Calculus class. He is just incredible. He slept in that class and didn't do homework, but still he got a 97 as his test average. Of course, his homework grade brought him down to the borderline between A and B.

I believe that everyone's smart in their own way ^_^
