I spoke to many current students of Lehigh University dong their MBA and got very good feedback. Be it the quality of education, intelligent and helpful professors, interns & job opportunities, financial aid or beautiful campus, were all their responses. Besides, Lehigh s ranked in 40s by US News and 77 by Forbes. But, its business school is not ranked and hardly visible.
Why is a University just below ivs league not much regarded for its business program? Is it underrated?
Chey…Not sure if you are going for an MBA or just talked to people who were but you can look at Bloomberg’s listings for undergraduate business programs…Lehigh’s ranked plenty high enough there and elsewhere for employers to know and respect the name. Really though, when the time comes, it is YOU that they will be evaluating, not your school…that’s already been done. They will want to know about you and how you will fit in their organization and meet their needs. Academic achievement, social and professional activities, internships or work experience, any special connections to them. Even a degree from a TOP program may not be enough if these other things are strongly lacking.
Not sure why TomSr would publish a snarky putdown like that. There are quite a few private schools in the Northeast that are regarded as “Near Ivies” or “Hidden Ivies” and Lehigh happens to be one of them. It’s a great school - I really enjoyed my time there and had a long fulfilling career (which included hiring decisions) for which I felt I was well prepared. But one of the things that struck me during that career was how many really outstanding people went to just “average” schools. Kind of makes you stop and think a bit.
I hadn’t seen this thread, but wow, a new member. Welcome! That’s cool that you included rankings, too. Thank you! I can’t put my finger on it, but this reminds me of another thread for some reason.
To claim the business program is under-rated is a personal opinion. The truth of the matter is that their IBE program and business students are wildly successful and in top demand. It is not under-rated in the real world. http://www.lehigh.edu/~inibep/
My daughter decided to major in finance at Lehigh, hoping that she would be able to directly enter the job market with an undergraduate degree. Her plan worked. After considering a few offers, she (3.3 gpa) landed a highly competitive internship at Bloomberg, beating out many Ivy applicants in the process. She performed well and accepted a permanent position with B’berg before her senior year even started. I completely agree with SonofAsa1 above; the Business School provides a great foundation, but that alone doesn’t land you the job. It’s about YOU.
