Why is Taft not on BSR?

I was just wondering why Taft doesn't have a profile on boardingschoolreview.com. I found out someone I know is going there, and I just wanted to check it out. Does anyone know how many students they have?

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I tried to find their info

urghhh same with me…

I asked the same question when my D had an interview at Taft last year. They said that they simply don’t want to publish the detail admission data such as SSAT and acceptance rate.

That is not a good sign on their part. It means their stats, they do not believe, are good enough. Plenty of schools have lower stats, all this shows is that they are ashamed of a high acceptance rate and a sub 75%ile SSAT score.

But erkybk many schools on BSR do not show their acceptance rates or SSAT or SAT scores. It is very unusual that a school is not on BSR.

Yeah, but if you just put it in the search bar, it shows up.

I don’t know if this helps but according to 2008 Prep School Hockey Guide:

Boarding Boys: 232
Boarding Girls: 214
Day Student Boys: 49
Day Student Girls: 58

Grades 9-12 & PG
SSAT Median Score 81%
Acceptance Rate 15%
Average Class size 11
Tuition $39,000 (07-08)

Anyone around that remembers the 70’s? I believe Taft’s SSAT Median Scores were considerably above 81% when I was a Preppie. What happened?

I’ve noticed that as well.

From the Peterson’s. Not much more info perhaps.

“All candidates except prospective seniors are required to take the SSAT, preferably in December or January. The minimum percentile score accepted is generally 50. Most entering students test between the 75th and 99th percentiles.”

yah that’s kinda vague. 81 sounds right though.

Taft is such a wonderful school so I do have the question just like you guys. BSR for sure offers a lot of insights when it comes to comparing between schools, some info are outdated however.

It was once on there. They must have taken it off.

I emailed asking about Walnut Hill today and this was the response. It fits for Taft too,

Hope tihs helps.

yea, this fall there was the info. I could have sworn. I think it was ike a 41% acceptance rate or something though.

I’m surprised at that. I have no special association with Taft – but I think its important to get accurate info about the many excellent schools out there on CC, particular those that don’t get discussed much. I know some of their programs are on par with all the BSs that are often discussed here, and I believe Taft and Hotchkiss are longstanding rivals. Based on their success in competitions that I’m aware of, they also draw some excellent academic talent. Anyone from Taft out there to speak up for your school?

Yes is there anyone to talk about Taft?
I think Taft would be my number 1 choice for applying next year. Great campus, academics, and sports.

We really liked Taft when we visited and we were happy to receive an acceptance. Hotchkiss ended up in being a better fit for many reasons but I would never discourage anyone from looking at Taft. It had a different feel from many of the other schools that we visited and I say that in a good way. You know how those visits go…some places feel right and some don’t but it’s a personal feeling, not one that is quantifiable.

I got into Taft last year with a 71% on my SSATs. That being said, grades and ECs made up for the low score.
