why is ucsd so boring

basically, that means if we want to get a good education, go to UCSD, and then on the weekends, we can drive down to SDSU. How far is UCSD from SDSU?

SDSU = strong sports programs and no college system. Less serious and studious students.

San Diego is boring?

Sweet. Just what I need to do well in my graduate studies.

I would venture that you are a typical UCSD student.

I don't know whether to take that as a compliment or not. But, after kicking arse at UCLA, I'm ready to make UCSD MINE. :D

Besides, I'm well past the undergraduate stage of wanting to drink till I'm sick. No thanks.

No value judgement at all. That is not my style :) Just an observation that judging from the prevalent environment at UCSD, you represent the typical student attitude there. Congrats, and good luck in grad school. I agree, being sick is NEVER any fun ;(

UCSD is definitely boring if your idea of fun is, as UCLAri put it, "wanting to drink until [you're] sick" :)

I'm really enjoying it here, but it's pretty fun to chill in great weather, scenery, and with cool people.

I guess if your idea of a fun night is to just go out with some friends (or a lady/guy) to the movies, kickass restaurants in the SD area (holy crap Brazillian BBQ is GODLY), the beach, shopping, whatever ... then i don't see how UCSD is boring. The bus system is pretty awesome and a car is even better.

Of course, to a lot of people, having fun means getting high/wasted so i guess in that sense it's boring since that's a bit hard to find, especially without a car.

I also really enjoy the multiple college system. I'm not really sure why, but i think it is pretty neat. I don't really see how it divides the campus as i have friends in multiple colleges through classes and whatnot. Maybe that's just me.

@ collegemom16: way to be offensive.

Twinky - I believe that Berkeley is called CAL because it was the 1st UC campus in Calif. At that point in time when it was the only one in existence, it was THE University of California (CAL). There was no reason to add the name of the city (ucLA, ucSD, etc. etc). I could be mistaken as to why that is the reason for it being called CAL. But I am certain that it was the 1st UC campus.

eastbaymom,

Thanks for that insightful and intelligent post.

Lovetocamp,

You are correct.

UCLAri

Whatever.

This has is the silliest post ever. So what if a college is occasionally boring? Has anyone heard of studying?

Chowdy, sorry if you found my generalizations offensive. The truth is that the different UC's have different personalities, and attract different kinds of students. There is no use in hiding the differences since everyone ultimately just wants to find the environment that is right for them :)
My comments were silly, and meant to be taken in that vein. That being said, there are obviously tiers to the UC system, and UCSD falls third on everyone I have ever seen. Obviously there are students who choose UCSD over CAL and UCLA, but that is not, I am sure the norm. For most UCSD is the fall back school if they don't get into CAL or UCLA. For others UCSD is the pie-in-the-sky school at the top of their list. Either way UCSD has its own distinct personality and I think it is wonderful. Students need choices to fit what they want.
Cecile not everyone wants a quiet college, and that is ok.

I think Chowdy says it all about UCSD. I just want to add, after living in SD all of my life, except my college days. Public transportation is not the best in San Diego and UCSD is on the north end of town and not within walking distance to alot of things. There is a very nice Regional Mall about 3 miles away (University Town Center) and all of the tranditional mall type area restaurants are near there. I think it would be difficult to enjoy SD and everything the area has to offer without a car. It is a beautiful city and there are a lot of wonderful things to do and places to go (besides the zoo!) You can check out info on SD on www.signonsandiego.com for more info on the city itself.
Best of luck to everyone planning on attending UCSD in the fall. My son has already declined his acceptance.

how depressing

Chowdy, do you go to UCSD right now?

I am really contemplating UCSD right now over many other schools.

So do you really honestly think that there isn't anything to worry about concerning the ability to have fun and stuff? There is a sufficient amount of stuff that you can do?

i chose UCSD over Cal and LA...that may not be the norm, but it's definitely not non-existent

UCSD may often come 3rd, after Berkeley and LA, but it has shot up significantly in rankings...a huge accomplishment for a school only established in the 1960s

True.

10 char

are the chicks hot at least???
