Why SDSU?

Hey, I was just wondering why some of you chose SDSU or why you're interested in this school?

I've recently been admitted into SDSU, but I was already planning on going to UC Irvine. I was admitted into Biology at both schools. I'm having a really hard time making a decision. Any advice? Pros & cons?

I also actually got admitted today for biology. I was also wondering the pros and cons of SDSU, as it’s between there and UC Riverside. It’s so stressful finding out you got admitted this late :/

notacollegekid27, I’m in the same exact predicament as you. It’s either UCR or here…and I really love San Diego…but I don’t know :frowning:
And yeah, getting admitted this late without any information is frustrating :/

I feel like a UC holds more weight but SDSU is a good school even if it’s a CSU. It’s really stressful finding out so late but it also feels good to know that you have another option if you don’t want to got to UCR (in my case UCI). Good luck with your decisions though! :)

I found out yesterday I was admitted as a Bio major, I already sent in $400 deposit to csulb. It’s frustrating finding out so late, if feel like I’m starting process all over again which I am with housing, etc,

Yeah it kinda sucks gotta find a new roommate, figure out where to dorm, sign up for orientation… Are you going to SDSU though?

Yeah I’m going, it was my first choice but now it’s just kinda put my mom into a frenzy now I gotta figure out dorms, orientation like u said

I will be going to SDSU for Bio as well. SDSU ranked number 1 for four straight years as the best small research school, but now they aren’t considered a small research school anymore because they added two more programs.

SDSU sports are way better than Irvine’s or Riverside’s. And they consistently win their divisions and their basketball games are like none other! The atmosphere is even better than UCLA’s! And SDSU basketball usually always are in the NCAA basketball tournament.

And if you intend to go to medical school, you shouldn’t worry, because in a medical forum a SDSU student got interviewed by Harvard! It all boils down to MCAT and GPA for med schools as well as other areas like volunteering etc.

Plus SDSU is separating itself from the usual CSU stereotype and has been a top-tier CSU for quite some time.

Plus the Biology department is amazing! There are professors from UCLA, Harvard, Duke, and Berkeley to name a few.

As the mother of an SDSU student, the social life is really good at SDSU. I recommend living in the dorms freshman year to meet new people. From what I know, UC Riverside is more of a commuter school. UC Irvine is great for academics but not really a social or sports school.

I may be a slightly different case, but thought I’d put it out there nonetheless.

I am an older student first of all (28) and a wife and mother as well. One main reason I chose SDSU was because of location - my husband works in San Diego, and our life is here, so I needed somewhere local. Another reason was affordability. A third, they have a great children’s center where my daughter attends.

I originally looked into UCSD (husband graduated from there in biochem) but SDSU was a better fit for me. First of all, my major is in English with an emphasis on writing. UCSD offers a literature major but its design just wasn’t what I was looking for. I like the program at SDSU. I am also on track to become a teacher, so my major is tailored with the credential program in mind. I have since changed my mind about a credential and will instead pursue a masters, but nonetheless my end goal is education and SDSU is great for this.

UCSD is also more oriented towards research. You really just have to ask yourself what your end goal is and look into the different programs offered. My husband was perfectly happy at UCSD (his career is research oriented), and likewise I am very happy at SDSU.
