I've been considering self-studying AP Human Geo, as it is the "easiest AP", but my counselor told me that it is a waste of time. She says that many schools do not even offer credit if I get a 5 on the exam. So is there any point in self-studying for it? Will it impress adcoms at all?

You really shouldn’t take a class because you think it will impress adcoms.

AP Human Geography is a fairly easy AP, and I don’t think it would be viewed the same as say, AP Physics. That, plus the fact that most (top) colleges, don’t even offer credit for it should dissuade you from self-studying it IMO.

To get a 5!

The only reason that I would take the exam is because it would look good on college applications for next year. But if colleges don’t care about it, then I would rather not waste my time. Currently, I’m taking APUSH, AP Physics B, and AP Comp Sci. None of which are too hard though, so I’m afraid that colleges will think that I never challenged myself.

I was contemplating self-studying it currently as a sophomore or perhaps next year as a junior in order to get another quick 4/5 to earn the National AP Scholar Award in time to put it on my apps.

Study it because it’s an awesome subject (and it really is!).

I am self-studying it for National AP Scholar.
