why the change of heart?

What was your reason for choosing UCLA in the end?

Like obdeboondocks said, it was a personal choice.

I'm from SoCal. Westwood is far enough to be be away from home yet near enough to be with my friends. Better financial aid package from UCLA. I liked the campus and the environment more. Some sentimental value attached to UCLA.

In the end, despite the "greater prestige" I kept hearing about, Cal just didn't have enough to offer to balance out all the things I'd give up. That's just me, though. But really, for those who had the choice, there was no way to go wrong. They're both great schools.

lolololololol, I admitingly havent read anyother post except the first one, but wow. Going to UCLA is by no means something to be sad about for anyone I know going there or myself. I personally turned down Cal to come to UCLA, and couldnt be happier with my choice.

ditto, I turned down Cal for UCLA.

luckily, I have the fact that UCLA has a better philosophy department than Cal, as far as what I want out of it.

But even so, I'm partial to UCLA. I grew up in SoCal and I've always dreamed of becoming a Bruin. When I was in middle school, I dreamed of attending Berkeley when my brother was looking at colleges. But now, I realized that my heart lies with being a Bruin and I can't go wrong in my decision.

I am incredibly happy and excited about my decision! Bruins all the way!!! =D

lol, this thread became a "why I turned Cal down for UCLA" eventually ^_^. Nice posts

Lol u guys make me happy

To chime in and answer TheIcon, I chose UCLA over Cal because I could see myself enjoying UCLA much more. The atmosphere fits me much better than NorCal would, and I've always seen UCLA as a place that I'd really fit into. I don't think I'd make the best of Berkeley like I plan on making at LA either. For me it was really about where I could see myself in the next couple of years and to graduate from.

But yeah, like everyone else has said, it depends on what you want to do with yourself and where you think you'll love learning at best. This basically can apply to all the schools anyway. And UCLA and UCB are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to prestige - yeah one may be better than the other in a certain major and vice versa, but whatever. Depends on you.

I agree with twitchy. Cal and UCLA are both great schools. As I've said in previous posts I chose to come to Cal because of a specific program that wasn't offered at UCLA. But I think that the decision does also have a little to do with where a person feels comfortable. I lived in the LA area for a few years and I didn't really fit in with the lifestyle there as much as I do in the Bay Area. I also couldn't stand the summer/fall heat or the Santa Anas. Love the campus at UCLA though and the location rocks.

did anyone here complete the UC Berkeley College Choice survey? I didn't opt to be put into a drawing, I just answered their questions. I wonder if any other schools do this?

also the e-mail seemed a bit touchy, lol, as to why I did not chose to enroll at Cal.

UCSB had a survey waiting for me when I declined their SIR. I don't remember one for UCB. I think I remember them asking if I'd like to take it and I refused. Not sure though...

I got a survey from UCLA when I declined in favor of Cal. I think that its standard practice among some of the UCs.
