why the change of heart?

okay i looked at the top 20 students in my year book and almost 80 percent of them are going to ucla, some to berkeley and a few to usc(#1 student), one to CIT (#3 student) these are the top students and they are mostly going to ucla, so now the ccc students, we do our two years and when we apply to ucla and berkeley we are sad if we only get into ucla, why is it that ucla seems like a bad school to transfer students? is there anything different?

Huh? Sorry, I don't really understand...you're saying people here are disappointed at getting into UCLA if they're not accepted into another school like Berkeley? Most people here were ecstatic when they found out they get into UCLA and some even chose UCLA over Berkeley. Many of them couldn't even have dreamed of getting into LA out of high school so some now are still finding it difficult to really sink in. It's all personal preference, really...

I think you are in So Cal right College Kid?

And it's true, some major in Cal is better than UCLA, so students may want to get into Cal over LA. However, it's not all of the cases because the difference usually is not too big and someone may choose LA over CAl because of the environment or other reasons.

Not only considering about which school is better than another (no absolute between UCLA and Cal anyway.) People get disappointed because of the fact they get rejected! I don't know if you can understand. For example, if you ask out 2 girls at the same time, the better one say "yes" to u, but other one say "no". Even though the result is the same as what you have hoped, you may still feel uncomfortable!

huh?
i know many people from my CC that only wanna go to UCLA
basically they target UCLA. finish tap and go for it.

iono... atleast at my CC people don't really gives a rat's ass about cal... cuz well my CC has very good transfer rates to UCLA and they have agreements and what not so eh wth...

Maybe ur talking about me...
I got into UCLA but my dream was to attend Cal
I'm not sad with the fact that I was accepted to UCLA, but I'm sad because I couldn't get into Cal ...three times.
I felt like I wasn't good enough or something.
Also I want to attend Cal for two stupid reasons: close to my home and reputation. I know these are not good enough reasons to get into Cal, but I thought that I qualified to be there.
Also note that, I think it's harder to get into UCLA from high school, and harder to transfer into Cal. You can look at the transfer rate.

Collegekid101, did you happen to go to West High?

UCBorUCLA: probably you have applied to Haas for all 3 years, cause other majors seem pretty easy to get in from CC

Close to home is an o.k reason though, but about the reputation ... Yeah, I agree Cal has a little bit higher reputation over UCLA, but it isn't really worth to waste years for the school name. I mean, there are other more important factors to decide your future success.

Wow, Caltech. #3 student must be an absolute baller.

s_dragon
In high school, I applied to Haas. I didn't even have good stats but I was clueless about how tough Haas was since I just came to the US.
In community college, I applied as an econ major with 3.85 gpa. Still didn't get in so I appealed and got denied again. Three times lol...
I was upset because it seemed that Berkeley didn't think I was qualified to be there. But right now, I can careless about it.
I know I'll be fine at ucla

we are in the same boat lol, I applied to Haas with a 3.97 GPA with ALL A+ or Honor grade in all of my prereq classes (my college use +/- system). However, I didn't bother to do the appeal even though the Dean of the language Arts Department and the Honors Program Coordinator said they would write letter or recommendations for me. I just think that their admission process is just not effective enough to recognize some of the best students.

Probably your PSs was hurt because of English skills right? I had a hard time when writing the essays also, cause I has just studied English genuinely in the last 3 years.

P/s : are you Junior or Senior in the coming fall ?

Yea I think my essay was part of my rejection, but also I didn't have a good enough experience in economics i think.

I'm gonna be a junior this coming fall. I spent 2 years at CC.

oh great, so I will see u in UCLA in the coming fall. hehe. are u going to take summer class ?

I'm taking summer class. I just want a break and travel

i don't think ucla lost its luster. i talked to this one chick at commencement. she is choosing ucla over ucb even though she got accepted to both.

If i took some foreign language classes..who knows i might have chosen ucla over ucb too.

For the record, I chose UCLA over UCB.

why? 10 char.

heres why i think i feel this way, before this site, and before i knew much about cc, my friend told my his brother screwed up in hs (i thought his future was done) and then he said he went to cc and got a 3.8 (which amazed me) and he was telling me it was because he didnt have a job and he studied a lot and told me he was on the deans list and got into ucla...back then i felt he was praised haha...the next time i heard someone transfer to a top uc was on this website where EVERYONE really cares about school and works really hard...so there is none of the regular students here it seems like its not a big deal

so that's why I said, the difference between UCLA and Cal is really small and no one can say any one of those is absolutely better than the other. I know plenty of students choose LA over Cal too.

well this reason is how i think people would choose la over ucb

location: whether its nor cal kids wanting to get away or so cal kids wanting to stay put.

in the end though...ucla and ucb stack up so close to each other and choosing one is more of a personal choice if anything that it makes BOTH schools look better imo.

It was a painful choice, but I chose UCLA over UCB. Even though so many people were telling me to go to Cal.
