I got only 99 for the TOEFL, lol. And I asked admission officers if I could apply and they said I could. I sent them TOEFL score ( it has not reached admission office, I think so). But on my Cornell account, it is stated that I am waived for the TOEFL.
I have not been to US, and only get 620 CR, Wr: 730 (I dont think Writing score may count)
So why I am waived for the TOEFL? Should I contact admission officers about this? I sent them my TOEFL score report but if I am waived. do they see it because 99 is below 100?

bump 10 char

Some schools waive the TOEFL if you achieve a certain minimum score on the SAT CR(usually a 600 or above.)Also, which country are you from?I recently spoke to a cornell rep who was in my country and he said they automatically waive toefl for kids from my country because english is an official language here, and all teaching is done in english. In your case, one or both of these reasons may be the reason for the waiver.

Toefl is often waived if you have been taught in English in HS

Oh really ? On my account it is stated that only AT LEAST 670 CR OR above 700 Writing SAT II, which I have not taken. But I think all international students applying to US are taught English in HS? If not, how can they apply to Cornell and why do they require TOEFL ?
Macmill: I am from a nation in which English is not an official language. I also do not go to a school in which students are taught tin English. lol, that’s the reason why I don’t know what I should do. I actually dont want to contact admission officers about this because my TOEFL is only 99 (below 100). If I report this, I may be cut-off.

My take on the situation is this:

You already contacted an admissions officer saying you have a borderline TOEFL score.

So instead of accepting your TOEFL score, admissions has chosen to waive the requirement for you, considering you already spoken to them that you want to be considered for admissions, even with the TOEFL score. They can’t say they accepted your score since it is not enough, and they cannot leave the proficiency requirement blank, so they waived it. Simple as that :P

CORNELLED1

Even though I lived in the U.S. for 3 years, I decided to take the TOEFL to show that I know English (and to compensate for low SAT reading and writing scores (600 and 670). I got 107 on the TOEFL but for some odd reason Cornell did not receive my scores. So I called the TOEFL help center and they agreed to send my scores to Cornell once again. I think that (1) Cornell did not receive my score or (2) Cornell just threw them away/waived since the TOEFL customer service rep said that the scores were delivered some time this summer.

I’m a permanent resident, btw

how old are you lol? writing for sat2? i haven’t heard of that in years =P

if you are insecure, retake toefl, or alternatively contact the admissions office.
