How was your essay?

Most large state schools tend to look first at objective criteria (gpa, rank, SAT's) and second to subjective criteria (rec's, ec's, etc.). When I saw your grades, my first thought was that you're a very smart person who does great in classes you like, but not so well in classes you don't. Good news and bad news: there are fewer required courses in college, but they count for a lot. On your transcript, both your freshman and junior years had weaknesses. But you were deferred, not rejected, so I think you still have a great chance. Good luck.

I applied to 6 schools, Albany being one of my two safeties. I was surprised to be deferred and have since been accepted at the other five...including two reaches.Plus my mom is an alum.
Their academic reputation is not what it used to be. Could it be that they have skimmed off the top of the applicant pool for EA by just compariing numbers(SATs, grades) so as to try and build up the stats of their freshman class this year?
I was told in admissions that regular decision is "rolling." I am hoping to hear soon.

the average GPA is not really a "93" like princeton review says. its probably more around an 85 (3.0) I know a ****laod of people who got in with ~80

The middle 50th percentile GPAs at the University at Albany, from the SUNY website, are 88 -- 94. Which means that 25% of admittees have a GPA of 87 or lower. At least this was the case last year.

Random Update - I was waitlisted and chose not to accept a place on the waitlist and instead am attending a much better school in PA.
