Why will you be accepted/deferred/rejected?

Accepted: the admissions officer got drunk and accidentally put my application in the accepted pile.
Deferred: the admissions officer was not drunk enough.
Rejected: the admissions officer was stone-cold sober and laughed hysterically as they shoved my app into the shredder!

And now for the genuine one...
hmm...accepted because...good recs, interesting essays, extracurrics. editor of lit mag, played in carnegie hall, varsity, etc.

deferred because i didn't have any AP's besides History until this year and they want to see how i'll do in those classes.

rejected because my SATs were average, transcript was good but I had a B every year...my accomplishments were good but prob. nothing anyone else couldn't do. and maybe my essays weren't as good as everyone said they were. Maybe Penn doesn't want to hear about my bleeding toe or how much i love their school. Can you imagine? i mean come on my bleeding toe is FASCINATING!

actually, the scores aren't AVERAGE, as everyone in my school is constantly yelling at me when I say they're too low. They're just nothing special for a Penn applicant: highest combined SAT I 1440, 790 writing, 740 lit, 740 Math IIC, 720 US history. still. nothing to brag about compared to the 1580's floating around lol

accepted - everything but the following
deferred - iffy grades (freshman year mostly) top 8% rank; white boy from NJ
rejected - see above

btw, 1580 doesnt mean ish....its all luck....i got a 1360 on my PSATs (but slept through a good part of a section)....got a 1580 first try (and still slept through a third of a section).....didnt do too much studying in between (no courses or tutors or anything)....if your SAT is above 1400, you are fine (no1 will hold it against you, ever)....if it is above 1500, dont you dare complain its 1510 not 1540, cuz there is a margin of error on the SATs and admissions officers know that
