WHY WON'T ANYONE CHANCE ME, REALLY????? Will you please?

The thing you have to realize born2dance, I have noticed this with many of your posts that we have gone back and forth on, is that the 80% rejected are mostly not like you. You are a fantastic applicant and I applaud your humbleness but you must realize that while there are certainly people like you or more qualified that get rejected, they do NOT make up the majority of rejected candidates. I think it’s good that you don’t assume anything about you getting into these schools yourself, but the truth is you have a much better chance than MANY, and that makes it seem less possible that people not as good as you might stand a chance but they still do. Many are like the OP or less qualified, you would be surprised at how many uninformed people think that being in the top 10% of any farm school in Iowa(just a random example, nothing against the state or farm country) means you’re good enough for Harvard. Once again, not meant to be mean, I really think you are a fantastic candidate anywhere!

hahahahaha.

This is amazing.

…so those SAT scores are subject to change right? I didn’t catch that part…

@stewta4 thanks! You’re an incredible candidate too! But actually, for this person’s post I checked Naviance and looked at accepted and rejected kids from our school. And every single person (these stats are from 2006 until present) at all of the mentioned schools (except UT Austin) who was accepted had some sort of better stats (and that wasn’t even looking at ECs). Everyone with a 3.8 who got into those schools had 2100 or above (usually around 2250) and every one with around an 1870 had a 3.9 GPA or above. JHU though was a bit lower, but not incredibly so. And to each of those schools, we’ve had over 150 applicants in the stat pool since 2006. So in this case, I would put her chances at lower than 30%. Though they are definitely not completely 0% at all either.

@OP Lolz. I’m deff not getting emotional here. I’m flipping back and forth bewteen this thread and discussing party plans with my friends on facebook, so no I’m not too worried about the college chances of some kid on the internet that I don’t even know. I do wish you well and think it would be wonderful for you to get into a school where you’ll succeed, but I’m not gonna invest myself in your life.

stating that we are getting emotional, over and over again, when (at least I speak for myself) we are not at all, is very childish. If you can’t evaluate yourself enough to agree somewhat, I might have to take back what I said earlier.

To improve your test scores: Buy a prep book and take lots of practice tests. Also ask your counselor for old tests from previous years(at least mine had some old ACT’s from like 2008). Take them with time constraints and then go over EVERY single answer and understand why you got things wrong.

Also, I will say this. Not to be mean or anything, being an African American Female is perhaps the most advantageous demographic for any university in america and it could help you tremendously. If you are from a region/state where the top schools don’t get a ton of their applicants from, that will help you even more and honestly could make JHU and Chicago low matches(30-50% chances) for you. Penn it probably still wouldnt help that much.

I am done posting on this thread in response to you, unless it will be to respond to born2dance. Good luck OP.

haha. I like you marlon. You’re the only who’s not taking this OVERLY serious. =)

Really. If you can upset over a post that random person across the country is saying, than by god, you guys need to lighten up.

I don’t even know why you guys are angry or whatever it is your feeling. oh well, I’m good so that all that matters :)

Thanks for the somewhat-ok critiques.

I’m amused that half this post probably wouldn’t have happened if the OP had just waited for the June SAT scores to come out before posting this.

Really, why the rush for chancing…?

Being an african american? Um ok. sure!!! whatever helps.

I just wanted some opinions, and I needed to make a list of things to improve!

Actually, I hadn’t seen that you were a URM.

In that case, @stewta4 was right, and your chances do go up. Possibly even to around that 10-30% mentioned. That’s not to say you don’t deserve it as much as other people, but it is true that being a URM can help in admissions.

Erm…are you past junior year already? (Sorry, either I skipped over that information while reading or I’m just confused by what you wrote.) If you are, there isn’t really much you can do to improve. I’d say that you’re as good as they get anyway.

…Actually, you’re not even a junior yet, are you? Wow, good job. You’re pretty much doing everything.

Looking forward to your new SAT scores if I feel like sticking around on this thread. Or stalking your new one.

hmm, interesting. JHU, why are the stats so much lower than the rest? U chicago is my dream school :)

Wait, wait?

Did you just say I didn’t deserve it? And who are you might I ask?

Get lost dude.

Read more carefully next time.

Haha this is actually pretty funny. Op calm yourself. The people here aren’t pros. They’re just giving you their honest opinions. Im reading all this as a third party and even i can tell that none of them mean any harm or rudeness towards you. If you want hard facts go to your school counselor. That’s what they’re there for.

oh ok than were good bluedancer or whatever your name is.

@ Vanilla! noones upset bro. At least I’m good =)

GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE.

Yes even you borntodance, and stew and marlon. Lol

But in all seriousness, thank you guys for all the comments. I finally got an honest opinion on my chances. I do not know exactly what was the catalsyt for all of your negative reactions but that’s ok. I don’t know you, and I’ll probably never meet you. For all I know you could just be having a pretty crappy day, eh.

(BTW if you read the post again, you’ll notice I did not usher a word of negativity, nor did I try to spur up trouble; but since we’re communicating through the text, its hard to discern your true reactions or feelings) lol

Good night guys,
may you be guided in all your endeavors!

:)
