I have a PS3 because my old PS2 broke and I still play a lot of my old ps2 games. A PS3 or 360 and Rockband will make your dorm room the place to party.

Really depends on what you want. Here is my $.02.

The Wii is fun but the games seem to be lacking. Its the best system to get people in your room, because anyone can quickly learn and play the games.

The 360's is probably the best value if you are a gamer. The graphics and game selection is very good.

PS3 may have the best graphics, but games are more limited than the 360. It does have Gran Turismo which is the greatest game ever but hard to justify the $500 to buy one and play one game.

I'd prefer the Wii, workout and gaming at the same time. XD I'd get the Wii just for Zelda: Twilight Princess, and especially now that Super Smash Melee has come out in the Wii. The most common complaint I see is that the games aren't that good - well, that'd improve, especially with gamers' feedback. What won't change is the Wii's innovative gameplay. That I think trumps everything else.

Wii -
Pros: cheap, party game oriented (def good for college), hella fun when drunk
Cons: not many good games (aside from Zelda: TP, Mario Party, and Brawl, which isn't even out yet), graphics aren't so good

X360 -
Pros: great games (too many to name), graphics are good, not too expensive
Cons: I really don't know...lack of party games?

PS3 -
Pros: BluRay is winning the battle, MGS4 looks sick, ridiculous graphics
Cons: not many good games (yet), pricey as hell

Oh, and do yourself a favor and buy Rock Band =P. I think it's available on any of the three systems.

Sorry but I hate when people call the PS3 pricey and fail to take into consideration the things you have to pay for the Xbox 360.

Everyone that says Xbox 360 goes on to say that Xbox Live is its strong point. Well guess what, you have to pay about $50 a year for that. Lets say you use it for about three years(a good lifespan of a video game console). Thats $150 added to the $350 price tag so it comes out to $500. God forbid you want to buy a wireless adapter so you don't have to run an ethernet chord, thats an extra $100 which pushes the price to $600 making it $200 more expensive than the 40gig PS3 and $100 more expensive than the 80gig PS3.

My suggestions to the OP(I personally own both a Wii and a PS3)

If you are going to be playing with a lot of people most of the time. Get a wii. Nothing beats it in the multiplayer(actual people playing next to you) department.

If you want a powerhouse, get the PS3. Yes, the game line up hasn't been strong but this year ALL of that is changing around. Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Tekken 6, Socom Confrontations, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, etc(all PS3 exclusives).

You said you had fun with your ps2, continue on to the new version and you will be happy.

Saxonthebeach, the high definition battle has been won. Toshiba is set to drop out of HD DVD production sometime soon. Blu-ray won.

The suite next to me has an XBOX and they all really enjoy it. I think it's more fun for groups that actually like games, though a Wii is probably good if people aren't so into gaming. Plus you can get rockband :)

i'm thinking about getting a wii. does anyone know how many controllers it comes with? and if i wanted to buy another controller, how much do they cost?
