Will 3 Bs (even with an upward trend) ruin me for the most elite schools?

I have 2 Bs freshman year and 1 B sophomore year, but all A’s junior year. All throughout high school I had the most challenging courseload available, with the exception of 1 honors class I didn’t take freshman year. Moreover, I also have “extenuating circumstances” that resulted in those 2 Bs freshman year, as well as some sophomore year (although I don’t know if that will just make me sound whiny or not, but it’s the truth).

My ECs are not spectacular, they’re probably more average for a T20 applicant. Retaking the ACT next Saturday and aiming for a 35.

no

Really? I see so many people with 4.0 GPAs, and even some of those don’t get in.

Is my thread just really stupid or something?

not at all. a kid in my school’s gpa was so low he couldn’t get into national honor society, but now he currently goes to Cornell. just make sure your guidance counselor emphasizes this to the admissions rep as well as advocate for yourself.
