Will a B+ in Math Ruin my chance of getting into Yale?

Van128, I don’t know a whole lot about how admissions officers think, but if you do get rejected, I’m pretty sure it won’t be because of that B+. SO DON’T FREAK OUT! Freshman year grades matter the least out of the rest of your transcript. There’s nothing you can do about it now, so just try to keep your grades up in all of your other classes and you’ll be fine. I think that colleges understand and sympathize with the fact that high school is a lot different from middle school and some kids have trouble adjusting (which is why so many kids have poor freshman year grades – not saying that yours is a poor grade, a B+ is a fine grade). Anyways, just work hard and try your hardest to get straight A’s from now on. If you have amazing grades and extracurricular activities from now on, I doubt that the B+ will matter all that much in the long run. So keep your head up and don’t lose sleep over it :)

P.S. A friend of a friend had a B+ the first semester of senior year (which probably counts for a whole lot more than freshman year grades) and got into Harvard.

This is just so untrue I can’t even…

Calm down. I got a B+ in the first semester of geometry. Also got a B- in the second semester of AP Statistics my junior year. I’m going to Stanford next year. Having a couple B’s is fine.

No, I’ve seen it all the time. Times are changing. Colleges can’t afford to accept risks.

No, it won’t. Geometry is a pain (as is trig). You’ll be fine.
