(This is my first post so I hope it is in the right category). I'm currently finishing up my Junior year and unfortunately I got a high B in AP physics both semesters since I never took regular physics and found it quite difficult. Will this kill me for UC Berkeley if I'm interested in science? Other than Physics all my other classes were A's, and my weighted GPA is a 4.5. I took the SAT II in Physics, Math and Bio (I'm in AP Bio as well), and got 800's, and my regular SAT reasoning is 2240. My EC's include 2+ years of FIRST robotics programming, participation in science fairs (California state science fair), co-written a paper published in a college science magazine in Biology. And that's about it..
Do I still have a decent chance at Berkeley? I'm feeling pretty depressed after seeing my report card

Your application credentials are above the median and your extra curriculars sound strong. BS is a highly desired degree at Cal, and since I applied as a BA candidate, I can’t speak to majors such as biology or math.

Profile of admitted freshmen, UC Berkeley:

Number of applicants: 50,312 (Fall 2010)
4,109 students enrolled (Fall 2010)
25.6% of applicants admitted (Fall 2010 and Spring 2011)
4.19 (on a 4.0 scale) median high-school grade point for admitted freshmen (Fall 2010).
SAT scores: Average SAT Composite score of 2031 for admitted freshmen (Fall 2010).

I would position your B as a learning experience and a result of wanting to push yourself to the limit by taking AP physics. You have a place on the UC application to indicate a special note of just that nature.

It doesn’t matter if you have a 4.5 or a 4.65, raw scores of that level will get Cal to take a serious look at your application regardless. It is your essays, extracurricular activities and leadership potential that will ultimately determine their decision. That B will have less bearing than you think, but the psychological impact is huge.

Good luck and Go Bears!

DONT BE DEPRESSED i had a B in ap bio, 4.3 weighted UC, 2120 SAT almost no EC( two generic clubs) ****ty Sat 2’s and i got in berk and la as well lol

Since your stats are above median and your ECs are impressive a B won’t really hurt you
good luck!

you got a ****ing 800 on your SAT II in physics, that enough will make up for your B, and it will also help if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP physics exam. it won’t look bad at all, even for ivies, which, according to your scores, sounds like you’ve got a decent shot at if you have some ECs to accompany those scores
