My dream high school is UVA. I'm in-state.

Throughout high school, I plan on taking 9 AP Classes. I'm expecting to get 4-5's on all of them, except for one. AP Chemistry. I'm taking the exam tomorrow, and I'm expecting to get a 1 on it...I haven't learned anything in class. After I take the test, I'm planning on immediately cancelling my score.

Will colleges ever see that I did badly on the test? Will it just look like I never took it? Is that a big deal, if I end up not taking it, and having a B in the class? (I have an A in everything else).

My weighted GPA at the end of Junior year will be a 4.2, and I have a 2250 SAT score.

AP scores are self-reported, so no, they won’t see it if you don’t report it. I would adjust your expectations of 4s and 5s on all 8 others if you have absolutely no grasp of this one though…either that, or adjust your study habits.

Okay so assuming I cancel the score after I take it tomorrow, it won’t hurt me that much? I’ll just lose some money?

probably not but colleges might see ap chem on your transcript if you took it in class and wonder why you didn’t take/report the ap score. doubt they put much weight into that. It’s an unknown.

Haha no… I managed to get a 2 on the AP Chem test in sophomore year and still managed to get into some pretty good colleges. Cancel the score if you know you aren’t going to do well.

What looks better, cancelling the score, or getting a 1 or a 2 on the exam?

Which one looks better

Bump. I would like to know too. Sorry.

Come one somebody has to know!

I’d keep the score but withhold it from colleges ($15) if you really do end up getting a 1 or a 2. The curve is pretty generous, so if you think you can pull off high marks on your other exams, then you should be able to at least pass this one.

Best of luck!

Some colleges MAY require you to submit AP scores. Very few do so.

Don’t worry too much about it. The free credits are just a bonus. Good luck !

Don’t cancel the test. If you score badly, don’t send it. If the college requires you to send all scores, send it after you are accepted. They won’t rescind for a 1.

It doesn’t significantly change the college admissions process, but it does minutely lower your chances if the class is labeled as “AP ****.” I.E. If I was enrolled in AP Biology, got a 2, and didn’t report it, it is confusing to colleges to see the course but no AP test score. That is already a sign that you may have not done very well on the test. Not serious (y)

It’s not required to take an AP exam just because you took an AP class. You won’t even send your official AP score reports to a school until after you’ve committed. A bad AP exam score just means you won’t get college credit for the class.
