HELP PLEASE!!! dilemna over a bad AP score

hey guys i have this absolutely horrible feeling that I truly bombed my AP chem exam. Is it recommended to re-take them next year? what would the policy then be over putting the scores on your applications?

thanks a lot!

reporting your scores when you apply is completely optional. If your transcript says that you've taken an AP course, not reporting the score may look bad, but skipping one test doesn't matter. Your college doesn't need to see a full AP report until you actually enroll.

yea i mean, i'd probably just skip that one test since i've done fine on all my other ones. in "looking bad" do you mean that it would affect whether they accept you or not?

If you are thinking about re-taking, I advice you not to. Unless you want to review a whole year course by yourself and take it next year. Not worth it.

You'll probably end up doing worse next year since the material won't be fresh in your mind anymore. And since Chem isn't composed of hard facts, it would be a lot harder to study it on your own.

I know people who got 2's on AP tests, or didn't take them at all in some classes, and still got into amazing schools. AP exams won't hurt your application all that much, if that's what you're worried about.

well see, i know this is gonna sound kinda cocky, but i got 96 and a 97 in ap chem so im fine with the material, except i never studied AT ALL! i had 4 other tests to study for in classes in which i wasn't that good at. plus, i had a conference in florida i had to go to, studying for SAT and i had travelled out of state for a golf tournament the weekend before. so yea, if i would have studied a little i would have done soo much better.

anyway, there's a 90% chance im re-taking (trust me, it won't be that bad, my schedule will be a lot freer next year). so if i were to retake it and get like a 4, would i have to report both scores on my applications? or how would i go about doing this?

for college, they're not really going to care that much about your ap score. a 5 is nice to see, but it doesn't really mean much. if you get a 4 or below, i wouldn't really report it.

the only thing that matters is that you took the course. your score only matters for class placement, and they can't hold it against you if you didn't pass (at least they're not supposed to). Like if you and someone were identical on paper, and they had a 5 on one exam and you had a 2, it still wouldn't (shouldn't legally) matter.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that when your AP scores get reported to you college they include all scores of all tests youve ever taken, unless you called college board and cancelled your score right after your test.
