I’m an American high school student who is heavily interested in the History and Politics program at Oxford. I meet their requirements for the SAT and and, at my current rate, will probably have 5’s on:
AP European History - 5 (took this last year as a sophomore)
AP US History
AP Comparative Government
AP Art History
AP English Language and Composition
(Note: the following assumes that I manage to get 5’s on the aforementioned exams)
However, I just took my AP Physics 1 exam and I don’t think that I did very well. In fact, I think that I did rather poorly (1-3 range). From my understanding, US applicants are required to report all AP scores on their UCAS application. I don’t intend on going into STEM at Oxford, so will that poor Physics exam score tank my chances of being considered for History and Politics? Thank you!
No, I don’t think this will be an issue.
Agree with @Conformist1688.
Guessing you are a junior- if so, keep an eye on the papers you are writing now- you have to submit a marked essay or paper with your application, and as the application deadline is early in the school year you may prefer an essay you wrote this academic year.
@Conformist1688 Okay, so the admissions officers at Oxford will simply disregard my low score because it isn’t related to what I’m applying for (provided I receive the 5s in my other relevant APs)? I’m just worried that they might think it reflects poorly on me as a student (as a whole)
That’s right. It’s a completely unrelated area. British students applying for this course will be unlikely to have even taken a science at A level (although some might). Your SAT should show you have reasonable numeracy, which will be treated as equivalent to having Maths GCSE, and that’s all you need. Your 5s in suitable subjects are what matters, plus your teacher recommendation and personal statement, then how you do at interview.
