Will a D ruin my life?

Hi! I’m currently a high school sophomore, entering the 4th quarter. Historically, I’ve always had stellar grades. Freshman year I received all A’s and B’a easily with my honors classes, so putting two AP’s on my sophomore year schedule seemed like no big deal. Turns out, AP statistics would be the hardest class in my life. Right now I have a D, and I might have an F as one quarter grade. It’s too late to drop the class, and I’m at the end of my rope. Are my chances of getting into a esteemed college ruined? Next year, I’m going to be in the IB program, which is basically like AP but more intensive. It’s definitely something I can succeed in, and I expect to get mainly A’s and B’s throughout junior and senior years. I’m involved with student council, charities, writing groups, and model UN. This year my grades are as follows (not likely to change)

French 3 Honors: 90
English 2 Honors: 96
AP Government: 94
Chemistry Honors: 85
AP Statistics: will likely be between a 65-70

My dream college is Georgetown. I’m interested in politics and journalism, would one poor math grade ruin my chances of obtaining what I want in the future? I’m terrified that my life is ruined because of a poor choice in picking classes, my depression has gotten worse and worse and I feel like anxiety is making me start to hate school.

Thank you in advance.

Relax. One grade will not ruin your life. High school is not this serious.

Ruined forever and ever and ever and ever. Now for the serious answer, no it will not, especially if/when you redo the class. No big deal, you got it.

It won’t ruin your life.

But you’ll need to recalibrate your expectations.

With a D and “mostly As and B’s” so far, your chances at Georgetown or any top 20 national or top LAC is pretty much zero.

Just being real.

But thére’s way more to life than that.
