Im going into my sophmore year and this is my schedule: (No APs till Junior year)

American Lit H
French 4H
Chem H
Pre-Calc H
World History A
Entrepreneurship (Elective)
Chorus or Marine Biology (not sure yet)
Science Research (after school)

I heard that World History H is really difficult and gives alot of homework (history isn't my strong suit---I'm a science/math student). Will not taking History Honors hurt when applying to colleges?

No, one regular class will not break your transcript.
I’m taking CP because H didn’t fit into my schedule.

Plebian, my school will not offer AP sciences until Chem is complete, so the earliest is Junior year…

No, not taking AP classes sophomore won’t hurt you.

Colleges don’t compare the rigor of one schedule with other schedules. They look at the rigor of your schedule in the context of your school.

Just as an example, if guy A’s school doesn’t offer any AP classes, and he doesn’t take any AP classes, then it won’t hurt him on his app. But if guy B has every AP class under the sun yet doesn’t take any AP classes, then his schedule will be looked down upon.

Rob, I have the opportunity to take history honors (my grades qualify), but I really don’t have the time for it. I’ve been told my courses are a step-up and are for sure much harder, so I don’t want to burn out with the heavy homework and essays that come along with history honors. History is the type of subject I really need to study, since dates and names aren’t my best. Will not taking the History honors bring me down if I excel in math and science?

Honestly…There is no difference between honors and standard classes… In my school the standard classes go about 1 week slower and have more time to finish assignments. Id reccomend going WH Honors instead of standard.

In my school, honors is alot different than regular in hw. honors H: 40 easy questions of hw a day or 10 really hard short answer

regular: A worksheet every 2 days

Yeah…But think about it…Its not like you are taking 6 Ap’s or anything. I doubt its as much work as Ap world history. But if you think you wont be able to handle it then just go with whatever you have

If you want to go to a really good school, take the honors class.

^ not necessarily. Does your school weight honors classes individually? If not - if the weight gets added at the gpa level instead of at the class grade level - a B in honors will hurt vs an A in CP. You do need to take mostly honors to be competitive and then AP when available. But one or two A grades in CP will not hurt you.
