Will a recruited athlete affect my chances of getting in?

I applied to Brown ED, and I think I may have been the only person from my school to do so (though I could be wrong, my class has over 500 kids). However I just found out that one girl in my grade was recruited by Brown for lacrosse and is already in with scholarships galore. Does this affect my chances of getting in?

I know Brown says that they don’t take into account how many people from one school they accept, but is this true? In the past Brown hasn’t accepted more than 2, and usually only 1, kid from my school.

you will find out soon enough

Just to clarify: Brown does not do athletic scholarships. Your classmate first, has not been officially accepted until Monday; has no idea yet what money she’s getting; and did not get “scholarships galore.” if that’s what she’s saying, she’s not being 100% honest.

As to whether it affects you-- it could. If you have something Brown really wants then you’ll get in.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my son was told by his regional rep they would have liked to have seen a coach’s recruitment letter in his file because he happened to play a sport. Was outstanding in every other way but got deferred, then rejected because of lack of recruitment letter.

How is this one girl from your school already in Brown when decisions come out next week?

First of all, decisions come out tomorrow not next week.

This girl was recruited by Brown. Aka they basically told her that she was in even though her official letter saying “you have been accepted” won’t come until everyone else’s does. I suppose I was wrong on the scholarship aspect but I know she is accepted into Brown already regardless.

My question was just if that acceptance would affect my chances, despite Brown’s insistence that they don’t limit the amount of acceptances from one school.

The short answer is most probably no. Typically coaches have a certain number of slots with the admissions office for recruited athletes, even for the ivies.
I really don’t think that the lacrosse player will play a major factor in its decision regarding you.

Most likely yes. Ivies can’t give scholarships but athletes still get a little mark on their applications.

Brown does not limit the amount of people they accept from one school, my friend from Harvard-Westlake (best private school in Los Angeles) had over 24 kids accepted by Brown with 13 of 24 admitting to Brown (Class of 2012).
