I am planning on transfering to NYU Gallatin from another top 50 university. I have good grades in most of my classes, with one exception: my photography class. My photography class is a 4 credit elective and is very challenging; the average grade in the class is a C+. Will the C+ in my photo class make a substantial difference? It is not at all related to my area of study.

Your entire package will be evaluated; no way to say whether one C+ will have an effect or not.

I am in a very similar situation - I’m trying to transfer to NYU CAS from another top 50 university as well…as I’m only a freshman, they’ll only be looking at my first semester grades, four of which were As, and one of which is a C in a 4 credit Japanese elective course I took. It being worth 4 credits, that C brought down my GPA a lot, which I thought might affect my chances negatively. If all goes as it should (for both of us), though, NYU will not only check our GPAs but carefully review our transcripts as well - if they see that we’ve excelled in all of our other classes, I’m sure it shouldn’t matter too much.
