Will a spelling error in my essay kill my chances?

I turned in my app and then I realized in my essay I wrote "place" instead of "plane." It's in my first sentence ... is this going to kill my essay? Is there anyway I can contact admission office to change it since the actual deadline is nov.1?

You could email them and tell them about it. Make sure they have your application with them.

stupid microsoft word...giving us all false senses of comfort!!!!!!

exactly! haha

If Gates made "GRAMMAR and SENSICAL checker" as in...it actually READS your essay instead of looking for the easy grammar mistakes like "The bears is eating the berries", people would be damn grateful.

We should seriously have the people who make up the Writing section on the SAT I to check over our essays... Grammar Draconians!

Why is everyone blaming it on Word? If everyone wasn't as lazy, then they'd check their essays before they turned it in...!

i wodner where it was you applied with this essay anyways....???

If it drastically changed the meaning of the sentence, you should clear it up. I don't think a spelling error ruins your chances, though, as long there are only 1 or 2. Colleges understand you're young. It proves your mommy didn't do it for you, anyway.
