I recently submitted a Priority Review app to University of Rochester. In their essay, I realized that I made a spelling mistake of "altitude", when it was supposed to be "attitude." Will spelling mistakes like this and minor grammar mistakes make your essay look bad?

If they’re frequent, yes. If it’s just a few, here and there, don’t worry about it.

I just made one mistake, I think.

If that was the only mistake than it is probably not a big deal.

Then it shouldn’t make any difference. If you proof-read your essay several times (you did, I’m hoping) and didn’t notice the mistake, then maybe the admission officers won’t notice it either. And if they do, they’re not gonna penalize you for it. Plus, the error wasn’t caused by improper grammar - it’s just a typo, a confusion between two letters that look really similar.

One typo should be fine. The admission officer will also most likely miss it.

Thanks for the info!
