I am a junior in high school, and I really want to go to UCLA next fall. I have pretty good stats overall (4.87 GPA, 2100 SAT, good amount of ECs, etc.) Recently I was accepted into a medical internship program at Stanford University. I am borderline on whether I should go ot not. Will attending this internship give me a good chance at getting into UCLA??

Also, i have heard from many that expensive programs don't look impressive because you can pay to get in. Although the internship costs $5800, for this program I had to send in official transcripts and an essay for review as well.

also, is it bad if i explain in my essays that i got accepted, even if i end up not going? (i feel like it isnt worth the time and money)

anyone???

You are paying $5800 to do an internship? Sounds more like one of those expensive summer programs that just seek to draw in more money for the university…

Go if you want to and if you think you will enjoy the experience. It will most likely have a negligible effect on college admissions (unless you are able to write a good experience essay from it). If you end up not going, don’t mention it in your essays.

Don’t explain in your essays that you got in, if you choose not to go!! What do you think? That the admission officers at UCLA are not capable of evaluating your transcript, they need to see what their pals at Stanford thought about you?

Yeah, but I mean they did require me to send in an essay, transcripts, and letters of rec. Plus only 60 people got in overall. I’m just worried that I would be passing up a huge opportunity to boost my app you know?

Also @mikemac, I didn’t really think of it that way until now, thanks for the warning.
