Hi everyone,

I'm currently a Junior in High School, and looking at what I should do this summer. I was wondering if doing an internship at a company in the Silicon Valley or with a professor at Stanford would significantly help college admissions. My GPA is a 4.21 right now (will be a 4.36 after this year; class rank 5), and SAT score is a 2250. Thanks.

By the way, I’m looking to apply to schools such as Stanford, MIT, Cornell, etc.

Yes, it would be pretty beneficial, both for yourself and for your application.

Doing an internship will always be beneficial, but you should do it more for yourself than for your application. Yes, if you have an internship at an amazing company, it’s going to look good on college apps. But if you spend your day being a gopher and getting coffee or whatever (I might just be thinking about my potential field, I don’t know what you’re thinking about doing), it’s not going to be very helpful to you. Working at a smaller company where you could do a lot more hands-on and learn more would definitely be more beneficial in the long run. If you could find a mix between the two, then that’s awesome and the best possible situation.

Good luck!
