Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I just got this internship few days ago within my field of interest, relating to my major and all.
At first, I was pretty stoked, because I thought some how, it'll help me out through my application process for the E/C and personal statements.

But seriously thinking about my situation: should I take this position, would it "reallllly" help me out for the admission process, even though I got the position so LATE? (applying this november)

Maybe at best I could fit this "internship" opportunity toward the end of my personal statement saying that "now" I'm doing something for my major, and the rest of my essay explaining my deep interest for my major. I can't really put anything more than that; due to how I got this internship so late, showing no serious time with the job-- maybe for like a month or so, if i do accept this internship.

And from the looks of the internship, it may overwhelm and interfere with my stable grades and school work. Plus, I have to quit my paid part-time job for this un-paid internship. And I love my part-time and having some damn money! So, yeah. I don't know what to do.

I actually emailed the UCLA's communication rep long time ago, asking if E/C or internship really necessary.
And she wrote: "As far as internships go, the admission decision is based primarily on academics, and you want to keep your focus on maintaining a competitive and extremely high GPA. It's always great to intern to build up your own personal resume, but do not let your GPA go down as a result."

I did finish 6/7 pre-reqs for UCLA with A's and now 7/7 finished at UCLA with a B. Holding a high 3.8-3.9 gpa.

I don't know if I could really believe that, cause I hear that stupid E/C does help, and blah blah. My mind is all about transferring, "experience" would seriously come later.
But if you guys think it may help, please explain.

Man, sorry for this long a*s thread! I start tomorrow! I need like fast opinions.
I could just b/s about quitting or just simply not showing up, if this internship doesn't matter.

Thanks.

this isn't high school admissions. they answered your question, why would they deceive you.

you taking the internship shouldn't happen just because it looks good on paper, it should be to help you in your decision in a future career or get experience in that career.

But in my opinion, if its a reputable company, and a reputable internship, don't burn bridges. You can't pay for the type of experience you can get in an internship. A paid part time job in something you have no interest in, wont benefit you in the long run. while that unpaid internship will lead you to realize that A) its is/not for you B) the major you chose is/isnt what you want to do C)the list could go on

yeah, you're right.
got couple of hours to think about this matter. =|
thanks, though. helped clarified my reason about this internship.

I was in the same situation. I got an internship before summer, but I took summer school instead.(16 units)

unlike me, you have a very competitive GPA. I don't know if your CC has honers programs, but I'm in this honers programs in my school. I heard it helps a lot. (Last year about 50 people in the program applied to UCLA and 45+- people got in)

do well in your classes, and write a killer personal statement! good luck!

Totally take the internship. That way if in the worst case scenario you have to appeal to a certain school, then you will have new and compelling information to talk about.
