Will being outside the top 10% screw me? Chances for UT Austin College and McCombs?

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get into UT. My only other in-state option is TAMU ( auto-admit ), which I really didn’t enjoy or saw myself thriving in. I would honestly take UT regular Econ over TAMU, even if I got into the Business Honors at Mays. It seriously would suck if I ended up at TAMU lol… I’m also applying to a bunch of OOS schools that I probably won’t get into lol…

Even though I have decently strong test scores, I’m scared not being in the top 10% will screw me. A bunch of people last year weren’t in the top 10% and didn’t get in. Although, my SAT scores are far better than theirs, idk.

Do you think I have any shot for McCombs? I think my 770 in SAT Math and 35 on ACT Math might help me out. But my class rank is trash compared to most McCombs people in the top 3-5%. To be honest, I think I should count myself lucky if I even get into UT’s school of liberal arts because UT is so class-rank oriented lol

I know that getting into McCombs is a long shot for everybody. It’s extremely competitive. And UT Austin isn’t just top 10%, it’s top 7% or 8% now.

Have you looked at UT Dallas? They have a strong business school. You have strong SAT and ACT scores that should get you an AES scholarship, probably full tuition.

I think you getting into UT would be a no brainer. I also like your chances of getting into McCombs based on your stats. At worse you will have to go into the college of liberal arts (Econ) and apply to McCombs once you show them what you can do. I think you will be fine.
