will canceling my housing application effect my financial aid?

Hi all,

So i recently joined a fraternity at the university of washington and I need to cancel my housing application for the residence halls--i received a substantial amount of financial aid and i am wondering if canceling my housing application and moving over to the fraternity will effect how much i will be getting. if it matters, the fraternity comes out about 1500 cheaper than the halls (both including room AND board).

thanks!

Your financial aid package will be updated to reflect the changes in your cost of attendance.

It depends whether your school has a different COA for living on campus or living off campus (and whether living in a fraternity is considered off campus). Some schools do have a different COA for living off campus. Some do not (my daughter’s school has the same COA for on and off campus so her aid remained the same when she moved into an off campus apartment). If there is not a different COA then your financial aid will not be affected. If there is it will.

From looking briefly at your school website I do not see a different COA for an off campus student (unless they are living with a parent) so it does not look like your aid should change. Check with your financial aid office to be sure.
