Will colleges accept my third year of online Spanish?

So here is my predicament
I took 2 years of High School Spanish (up to level 2), 1 year of BYU Independent Study Spanish ( finished level 3)
The reason why I took BYU was because of an elective that I really wanted to take. My school won’t accept the BYU credit but my counselor said that I could attach my BYU transcript with my other transcripts when I apply to colleges. BYU is accredited for UC’s but my main question is
WILL OTHER COLLEGES ACCEPT IT?
I’m not too keen on top selective colleges, I’m aiming to be admitted in the top 50-200, and my counselor said that since I’m more interested in a STEM major (more specifically engineering) that language is the least they worry about. I did talk to one college counselor online, and they said colleges don’t discriminate between online vs traditional brick & mortar, and that I shouldn’t worry too much about. BUT I would like to know anyone with experience with taking online courses that have been accepted by universities? Or if you would have any suggestions or answers please reply thx!

More Info

  • I can’t take another year of Spanish language in my school due to my commitments in being editor in chief for my elective
  • I could get another year of language but that would have to be in ASL (the class is provided 0 period)
  • I have contacted Purdue and SCU, they have both said that they would accept the third year, BUT WHAT about colleges such as NYU where to apply you need 3 years of a FL (I’m still waiting on their answer)?

I would explore on the specific college’s websites to see if you can find out any information on this. As far as credit for online courses in general though that really depends on the school. It sounds like you are on the right track by trying to get into contact with colleges like NYU and you should continue reaching out at other schools to get official answers. Good luck!

Re-read the words carefully. Are three years of FL specifically required? Or are they recommended?

Each palce sers its own policy. You need to ask each of them separately. I know it is painful to have to wait for their answers, but that is what you need to do.

Agree that each college has its own policy.

You may want to ask your guidance counselor to note in his/her recommendation to colleges that you had a scheduling conflict and could not take Spanish 3 at the HS.

If u want to apply to NYU, you need three years of a language & many others recommend three so I would like to know if they would take my online class into account & I was talking to my counselor and she said that she could write a note about my decision about taking Spanish 3 online
