Will colleges see my first-quarter gpa in senior year if I apply early decision or early action?

I have low gpa in freshmen and sophomore year and decent gpa in junior year. So, I want my first-quarter senior year gpa counts badly. I also want to know if colleges will consider special cases regarding grades. Because I spent my freshmen year in China so the gpa is very low (different grading system in China), which is only 3.7. And I have 4.19 for sophomore in U.S. (School doesn’t give me honors class in first year here). And I have 4.51 for junior. Will competitive colleges consider my circumstance? Should I apply to early admissions?

Competitive colleges will look at your app “in-context”, meaning they’ll see you switched schools and what your school didn’t allow you to take, etc.

Early Action/Early Decision will only see the mid-semester grades, not your semester grades.

There are a small number of EA and ED schools that actually request mid-semester grades, and those tell you that in their appliction instructions. Otherwise, the decisons will be made without seeing any senior year grades.

Some people wait for ED2 for this reason.

Thank you all. Ur replies r really helpful!

Are you serious about your “very low” GPA? 3.7 is still equivalent to A-. It’s still in the 90th percentile. Give me a break please. You seem to be looking for compliments.

I think we should give the poster some slack. If that 3.7 is weighted, it is indeed considerably lower than the 4.51 for junior year.
