Will CSU still accept me if I got a D in one of my A-G courses.

I am a Senior now but in 10th grade I got a D in my second semester of World History. I turned in an unofficial transcript when I applied to CSU and got accepted. I did take time to redo the course but was unable to finish. As I have now Graduated from High School I ended up sending my final official transcript to the school I choose. With that being said I am well aware that my D is still in the grade book and will forever more stay that way. I told my family but my sisters and brother still insist that I check with a counselor to see if the cal state i got in and accepted will still accept me into there school. I know that the school will take me out of their school and I will have to apply to a community college to transfer. They think I should wait to hear from the CSU and talk to my high school counselor. Although I am still going to talk to my counselor I am still going to apply to community college just in case.

There is a lot of pressure and stress right now. Please let me know your opinion on the matter. (I accepted Cal State LA)

Did you meet the CSU History requirement without the World History course? Which CSU and if they accepted you based on your self-reported D, then it should not be a surprise when they receive your final transcript. The only way they will rescind your acceptance is if you did not fulfill all the a-g course requirements. Was retaking the course a requirement to keep your provisional admission?

I only got a D on the second semester of 10th grade. The CSU is Cal State Los Angeles. When I applied it was during the fall of 2017 around November and from there all student where to send in recent transcript and my grade was still the same. At the time I was taking the world history course again on an online class provided by my school. My counselor recommended it to me because in my school it was highly place upon the student that no CSU will ever accept a student who has a D in any of the class from A-G. My school provided 3 years of history and that is the requirement for all students to apply to a CSU or UC. I am going to check CSU website to check if I met their requirements.

Here is the History requirement for CSU’s:

History and Social Science (including 1 year of U.S. history or 1 semester of U.S. history and 1 semester of civics or American government AND 1 year of social science).

Getting a D 2nd Semester in any class invalidates that class for the year.

You can look up your HS courses here to see which ones fulfill that 2 year requirement:

https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/institution

if you re-took the class, your new grade should replace the D - which will make your GPA a LOT more competitive make your A-G concern a mute point

@NCalRent, OP stated in the original post that they started retaking the class but did not finish so they are in jeopardy of possibly not meeting the CSU requirement.

thanks for the catch @gumbymom - but, the other side of my iifi … if you didn’t re-take the whole class, you probably have a problem. I would call CSULA and ask them how you should proceed. They may let it slide but, my guess is, you will have to start at a CC and transfer into a CSU. You will be better served knowing that now so you can make alternate plans.

i hope it works out for you.
