So I have maybe 1 or 2 ECs that I have to just pad my college app. and I was wondering is it better to just. drop those and use that extra time for a job? Will selective, top universities look down upon it even if its fast food or retail? I also need the money for self care, family, and clearly tuition.
What do you mean that you have “1 or 2 ECs to pad your application”.
A job is a very worthy EC. “Padding” your ECs won’t impress the adcoms.
A job is a great EC.
No colleges look down on people who work. In fact, there are plenty of colleges who like to see that a student has a job.
I agree with everyone…a job is a fine EC.
Just make sure academics takes priority over the job.
Try hanging on to one of your EC’s if you get a job, just to give yourself - and your college app - some balance. If you need the money and want the work experience, go for it! If you wind up with a good gig that’s flexible, they may be able to hire you back during the summers if you are home from college. Just make sure your academics don’t suffer.
