Will I Be Accepted into a Film Program? ADVICE NEEDED.

I'm really passionate about film and have been working on a screenplay for almost a year now. I've done some scriptwriting and story boarding. My goal is to be a motion picture director. I only have two schools that I'm applying to as of right now so I'm wondering what you think my chances are and if you have any more suggestions for me.

STATS:
GPA; 88 uw/93 w (no APs, mostly honors with 3 CP classes)

I'm Asian American. Two years ago, my my mom died and my dad lost his job within the same week.

I'm applying to Fitchburg State and Emerson but both programs are very competitive. I need some advice. (apps are due 1/1 and 1/5)

please chance me, I need more options and would like some advice. are there easier programs to get into? should I get a liberal arts foundation and transfer into film as a junior?

bump please

Fitchburg State: Match (you have a chance)
Emerson: Reach

If you get a liberal arts foundation at a reputable U, and get a good GPA in it (3.4 or so) then you can attempt transfer into better film programs (say, LMU, Temple, even USC if you have 3.8+)

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m trying to figure out what other schools I should apply to but I agree with you that it will probably be a good idea to get a liberal arts foundation.

You need some safeties, film programs are hard to predict because they often decide based on a portfolio/film sample. Apply to at least one or two schools for their general/non film program and your stats are above their averages…

Thank you very much for your input. Do either of you (or anyone else) have suggestions on what schools I could get into for a liberal arts foundation?

Have you looked into Chapman? It has a great film program with a liberal arts focus. I’m not sure how competitive the film program is, but you could always just attend the school itself and try to transfer into the film program later or do a film minor. That’s an option at another school, as well. As previously said, however, most film programs really rank you based on portfolios, so it’s very hard to say.

thank you! I’m really looking for schools in MA close to Boston though. I forgot to mention that earlier. I don’t have enough money for travel expenses.

As far as a portfolio goes… I have a pretty strong script/concept for a film that I’ve been working on but very little filming experience. I’m planning on writing an in-depth analysis of a film as well to show how much I know and how my mind works. Do any of you CCer’s appose to this?

any more answers? bump
