I think you should look for a safer bet among schools that actively recruit international students such as Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. You might be able to get the aid you need from a school like this. Good luck!

Waverly - Back in the last century when I was living outside the US, I used to volunteer with the organization that is now known as EducationUSA. I’ve seen plenty of talented young people who did not get the kind of financial aid that would have been necessary to enable them to study in the US. That’s why I have no problem telling it like it is. It’s fine to want to attend college here, but every international applicant needs a solid back-up plan in case he or she doesn’t get in, or gets in without enough aid.

Apollo6: Hm, I’ll have to take a look at Earlham since the deadline seems to be a bit later. I’m not sure ho much financial aid they can offer, but I’ll check it out.

Happymomof1: Once again, thank you for the insight.

I’m thinking about applying to Colgate with the ED II option… I’m not sure if it’s a good idea though, because things might work out with a college I want more (Yale or Colby). I’m thinking Yale because they’ve taken one student from Georgia every year for the past five. They weren’t that spectacular (2050 SAT score and 3.6 GPA for last year’s guy), but it does seem like the representative they have here does have a “quota”, if you will, of one good student per year. This year, there’s only a handful of us in the mix and I do think I have a chance, so I’m not sure.

That said, it’s completely possible to get rejected from Yale AND all other schools, but perhaps going ED II might bag me Colgate… any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

I’m only going to speak on Whitman College because I live 45 minutes from there. It’s an incredibly easy school for many people to get into. But…don’t go there. You will regret it. Walla Walla is full of crime…and it’s tiny. It’s horrible. It’s not even close to Yale or any other college on your list. Save your time.

Costanzo: really? The reviews I’ve seen say quite the contrary… at any rate, though, as long as I get accepted with full financial aid, it matters little whether the institution I go to is good or fantastic.

Costanzo, I have a kid who goes to Whitman and loves the school and Walla Walla. The way you’ve described it is a lot different from the reality he’s encountered. Obviously opinions vary.

Bopambo: Yep, exactly. If I am lucky enough to be accepted, I’m sure I’ll join your kid’s side. :)

Was just contacted; my Yale interview is now set for Monday.

^^^^Best of luck!

Thank you! :)

Macalester labels itself as an international college.

Yes–I have some hope for Mac.

Here is what my final list looks like: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqNYKcAQJ37NdENWWllBUk91ZHhqZTNyNXZsQ2tHT1E

I think you have some impressive stuff.you may have a pretty good shot at yale

Crazychic101, I’m not so sure, but thank you for the kind words. :)

In what world is Reed a safety for anyone?

You are a really well rounded student, I think. But its hard to say whether or not you will get into your reach schools. I believe you are competitive enough, I guess it just comes down to luck/what the admin officers think!

Diana2012 - thanks for clarifying once again :)

Alizabeth - thank you for the reply. I guess you are right.

I am now trying to get interviews with some of these schools… it’s already too late for a couple, but I am hoping for the best.

Hey, I’m not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but most schools won’t accept 2 math tests if they require subject tests. Do standby testing this January if you have to.

Good luck!
