I want to apply for undergraduate film at Purchase. The website states that I can submit up to ten portfolio items in my application. There's really only one thing I want to submit- a ten minute film- but will it count against me if I don't submit more than that? I have a few paintings too, but they're not very well done. Would it be better to submit the paintings and the film, or just the film? How much do they care about quantity? I'm assuming that they will mark me down if I only have one thing in my portfolio as opposed to ten, right?
Also, I'm an applicant from New Mexico. I know that being out-of-state is a definite disadvantage when applying to Purchase, but since I come from a kind of obscure state, do I have a better chance than other out-of-state applicants?

We’re from CA and my daughter was admitted, but for the Liberal Arts program, which may be different. I haven’t actually heard that being from out of state is a disadvantage in admission. Who knows, they may want out-of-staters right now, since they pay more!

I wouldn’t think you’d want to submit anything to them you don’t feel really good about. My guess is, you won’t be the only applicant submitting just one film. After all, you’re applying to BE a film student. They can’t expect you to have a huge body of work yet. Ten items is the maximum, not the requirement.

Good luck!
